Radhika Tiwari | HENB | Prayagraj | Jan 30, 2022:: In a ‘Sant Sammelan’ at Prayagraj on Saturday, Hindu religious leaders demanded the release of Swami Yati Narsinghanand and former Waqf Board chairman Wasim Rizvi (alias Jitendra Tyagi) who were arrested for making statements against Jihadi Muslims at a similar gathering in Haridwar last month. In Prayagraj ‘Sant Sammelan (meeting of Hindu seers/saints/monks/religious leaders), the congregation declared India as a Hindu Rashtra.
Shankaracharya Narendranand Saraswati, the chief guest at the event, said Yati Narsinghanand and Wasim Rizvi should be released within a month.
Failure to do so in a month would result in “violent agitation”, Shankaracharya Narendranand Saraswati warned in his speech.
Earlier in January, Hindu religious leader Yati Narsinghanand was arrested by the Uttarakhand Police in the Haridwar for alleged hate speech case. He was the second to be arrested in the case after Wasim Rizvi alias Jitendra Tyagi.
At the Prayagraj Sant Sammelan, participants adopted three resolutions: first, they demanded that the Constitution be amended to declare India a ‘Hindu Rashtra’. Second, to make stricter laws to discourage religious conversions and capital punishment for those who convert.
The third resolution demanded the unconditional release of Yati Narasinghanand and Wasim Rizvi, who were charged with promoting enmity between different groups through their discourse at the Dharam Sansad in Uttarakhand.
According to reports, this meeting was called by the same religious body who had organised the Haridwar Dharam Sansad during December 17 to 19 last year.
The event was initially advertised as a Dharam Sansad but later announced its name as both ‘Sant Sammelan’ and ‘Dharma Sansad’ after being pressured by the district administration.
Uttarakhand Police arrested Yati Narasinghanand and Wasim Rizvi after Supreme Court issued some directives upon the state govt regarding the matter.
