Dhankhar assures monks of steps as per law on Mahua Moitra’s Kali comment. Dhankhar also said that he will ‘diligently’ go through the memorandum submitted by the monks.

Aditi Bhattacharyya | HENB | Kolkata | July 12, 2022:: The Bengal Sadhu Samaj gave a warning to stop vilification of Hinduism through a deputation to WB Governor and urged the ruling party not to cross the limit to humiliate the Hindus anyway.

More than 37 different religious institutions in West Bengal, led by the Swami Pradiptanandji (Kartik Maharaj) of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, have lodged a complaint before  Governor Dhankhar against the insult to Sanatan Hindu Dharma, vulgar remarks about Hindu deities and Jihadi obstructions to Hindu temples and worship presently increasing in the state on regular basis. Many senior monks and veteran saints participated in the deputation when the opposition leader of WB Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari also joined in the programme to extend his support for the cause.

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar assured the delegation of monks of taking all steps in his capacity as per law over the issue of alleged comments on Goddess Kali by Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra.

Dhankhar said that he will “diligently” go through the memorandum submitted by the monks.

“I will do whatever is possible in my capacity as per law,” he assured them.

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari of BJP, who held a framed photo of Goddess Kali, was part of the delegation which met the governor at the Raj Bhavan here.

A controversy has cropped up with BJP alleging that TMC MP Mahua Moitra has made unsavoury comments, while she has denied having said anything derogatory and asserted that she is worshipper of the Goddess herself. Moitra depicted Goddess Kali as a meat and alcohol eater and she categorically told that the devotees of Goddess Kali take meat and alcohol as sacrament (prasad) after offering those to the deities. Moitra had said at a conclave on July 5 that ‘Kali, for her, was a meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess’, a comment which has drawn flak from many quarters.

This controversy on Goddess Kali created enormous heat in the internet after publication of a film ‘Kaali’ poster showing an model of Kali enjoying a cigarette. One Indian origin Canadian film maker Leena Manimekalai prepared this film on the rights of LGBT as told. Manimekalai also described Goddess Kali as ‘Queer’.

Dhankhar told the delegation that the consciousness which is seen in Bengal about Goddess Kali is revered by the whole country and the law needs to take steps on the comments made on the deity.

Police complaints have been made against Moitra and Manimekalai for their derogatory remarks against Godess Kali in various states.

The Bengal Sadhu Samaj (The Hindu Monks and Saints Unity Forum) demanded immediate arrest those persons willfully humiliated Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali in recent times.
