Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | Sept 8, 2024::Devout Hindu and renowned rights activist, Advocate Amita Sachdeva, has been tirelessly working to eradicate all objectionable videos depicting Hindu girls and women bathing at Ganga Ghats. These videos, which were illegally captured and uploaded to the internet by various individuals and YouTube channels, have been the focus of her persistent efforts to protect the dignity and privacy of the individuals involved.
In response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed regarding unauthorized videos that demean Hindu women and minor girls while bathing at the sacred Ganga Ghats during religious rites, the Delhi High Court ordered compliance with the mechanism outlined in the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. Pursuant to the court’s directive, Advocate Amita Sachdeva approached the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) after YouTube-Google India’s Grievance Officer failed to respond to her concerns.
In response to Advocate Sachdeva’s appeal, the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) issued interim orders on September 3, 2024, seeking detailed responses from both Advocate Sachdeva and Google. Surprisingly, the committee has requested Advocate Sachdeva to provide evidence proving that the videos were recorded without consent and to specify exact timestamps for each clip, indicating the start and end points of nudity or sexual acts. This suggests that the GAC may only remove the specified portions of the videos, rather than deleting them entirely. Meanwhile, Google and YouTube have deleted 381 videos, leaving 208 still online, out of a total of 589 unauthorized and demeaning videos presented by Advocate Sachdeva in court. This raises concerns that Google and YouTube are not fully complying with court orders, instead playing a questionable role by not removing all objectionable content.

Taking here X handle, Advocate Sachdeva reiterated her stand as, “Nevertheless, I will send the detailed reply to the GAC and will continue to pursue this matter, regardless of any cost.”

It is indeed regrettable that the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) is not taking a more strict stance to protect the dignity and modesty of Hindu girls and women who undertake sacred dips in the Ganges at various Sanatan pilgrimage sites.
