Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | Nov 24, 2025:: Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent comments on Sindh province, calling them “delusional and dangerously revisionist.” Singh had stated that although Sindh is currently not part of India, borders can change, and the region could potentially return to India in the future.
Rajnath Singh’s Remarks
Speaking at an event organized by the Sindhi community in Delhi yesterday, Singh emphasized the cultural and historical significance of Sindh to India. He noted that many Muslims in Sindh consider the Indus River sacred, much like the Aab-e-Zamzam in Mecca. Singh also mentioned that the Sindhi community’s importance remains unchanged despite the partition and that the region’s cultural identity is deeply linked to India’s.

Pakistan’s Response
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded by accusing Singh of revealing a “Hindutva mindset that seeks to challenge established realities.” The ministry also stated that such remarks violate international law and the sovereignty of states. Pakistan urged Indian leaders to refrain from using language that could raise tensions and instead focus on protecting their own people, particularly vulnerable minority groups.

Historical Context
The controversy surrounding Rajnath Singh’s comments comes amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The Sindh region has been a part of Pakistan since the country’s formation in 1947. India’s National Anthem also mentions Sindh as a part of its cultural entity, which has been a point of contention between the two nations.
The Indian National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana, includes Punjab, Sindhu, Gujarat, Maratha, Dravida, Utkal, Banga, Vindhya, and Himachal in its cultural entity of Bharat. The Indian National Anthem, written by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, showcases the inclusivity of Indian history, culture, and heritage. In his lecture, Rajnath mentioned a reference from the Ramayana, describing Sindh as a part of Raja Dasharatha’s kingdom. He also referred to Sindh as the land of the first recitation of ‘OM’ and Vedic scriptures. Rajnath Singh links Sindh as an integral part of the Sanatan concept.
The situation is likely to escalate further, with both countries maintaining their respective stances on the issue.
Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM)
The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM) is a prominent rights movement in Pakistan’s Sindh province, advocating for independence from Pakistan. Led by Chairman Sohail Abro, the movement strongly condemns the Pakistani military’s actions in Sindh, claiming they forcibly occupy the province’s lands and resources.
The JSFM also identifies Sanatan as the true essence of Sindh’s cultural identity, diverging from the rigid interpretations of Islamic fundamentalism that have historically marginalized Non-Muslims.
– Self-determination: JSFM insists on the right to self-determination and freedom for the Sindhi people, citing continuous economic, political, and geographical oppression by the Punjabi-dominated military.
– The movement stages protests and sit-ins to draw attention to human rights abuses, enforced disappearances, and illegal detentions in Sindh and Balochistan.
– International Support: JSFM has called on international organizations like the United Nations, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch to support their cause and intervene to protect Sindhi people’s rights.
– Repression and Violence: The movement accuses the Pakistani state of increasing repression, with security agencies conducting raids on pro-independence activists’ homes and abducting Sindhi activists.
