Upendra Bharti | HENB | Kolkata | Aug 15, 2026:: A total of 1,008 yajnas will be performed by Hindu groups across West Bengal in January next year, with prayers for the reconversion of Hindus who have converted to other faiths and their return to the Sanatan fold. The announcement came two days after Acharya Ramchandra Das, one of the organisers of the event, met Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Preparations for the mega event have already begun.
As part of the ceremony, fire pits will be lit, Vedic mantras will be chanted, and pledges will be taken concerning the nation, religion, and Sanatani society, an organiser said. One of the pledges will be to work towards bringing back into the Sanatan fold those who have converted to other faiths.
In West Bengal, the organisers allege that Christian evangelists are actively attempting to convert poor Hindus and tribal communities to Christianity. They also claim that activities associated with what they describe as “Love Jihad” and Islamic conversion are increasing in the state.
Against this backdrop, Hindutva organisations have resolved to oppose religious conversions and facilitate the return of converted Hindus to the Sanatan fold through what they describe as Dharmik and traditional procedures.
The proposed mega Sanatan Ghar Wapsi programme in Bengal in January is being projected by its organisers as a significant initiative to address concerns over religious conversion and demographic change in eastern India, including West Bengal.
