Dum Dum Hindus Erupt in Protest Over Durga-Ganesh Biryani Advt.

Angry Hindus in the Dum Dum area removed an objectionable advertisement depicting Maa Durga and Lord Ganesha enjoying mutton biryani.

The 34 years of Left Front rule and 15 years of TMC rule raise questions about accountability for the political culture that has shaped public discourse in the state.

Now, a similar trend is being observed in narratives propagated by some fake and self-proclaimed religious figures, such as Swami Pramatmananda Giri of Juna Akhara, who has reportedly been promoting claims about Vedic rishis consuming beef and the consumption of meat during Durga Puja and other Hindu festivals. However, Hindus in general appear increasingly unwilling to tolerate what they perceive as the denigration of their faith and deities, whether during festivals or at other times.

Now, Bengali Hindus are taking action.

Regent Biryani restaurant near Nagerbazar, located at 160/6, Jessore Road, Mala Apartment, beside Diamond Plaza Mall, Nagerbazar, Kolkata – 700055, put up a highly objectionable and provocative advertisement ahead of Durga Puja. The incident sparked outrage among local Hindus, who viewed the advertisement as an insult to their religious sentiments.

Supporters of the Hindu Jagran Manch and Bajrang Dal, along with local residents, gathered at the restaurant and vehemently protested against the advertisement, which depicted Maa Durga and Lord Ganesha consuming mutton biryani with eggs.

Facing mounting protests, the restaurant owner apologised and assured the protesters that the advertisement would be removed at the earliest opportunity. Police arrived at the spot to maintain law and order.
