HENB | Washington | April 20, 2015:: As a sign of serious religious intolerance, a Hindu temple in the US has been vandalized with nasty images spray-painted on its walls by a suspected Catholic group, the latest such incident in the country.
The number 666 and an upside down cross was spray-painted on the door of the temple in Old Lake Highlands, north Texas.
Krishna Singh, who is on the temple’s board, said they discovered the graffiti on Monday.
“That was a big shock, really…The whole things has been very disturbing to the community,” CBS Local quoted Singh as saying.
Dallas police sent out detectives with the gang unit who are still searching for suspects.
In the attack at the North Texas Hindu Mandir in Lake Highlands suburb of Dallas, vandals painted symbols of devil worship on the temple’s door, media reports said. The attackers left behind on a shed at the temple the mark of Mara Salvatrucha, an international gang originating among immigrants from the predominantly Catholic nation of El Salvador and active in the US.
A part of the police also believes that A Hindu temple was vandalized in Texas by an international gang from a predominantly Catholic nation of El Salvador, media reported.
The 11CBS network in Dallas-Fort Worth area reported that a temple board member, Krishna Singh, said mandir members discovered the graffiti last Monday. “That was a big shock, really,” the network quoted her as saying.
“It makes me sad inside,” a nine-year-old child, Gracie Reed, told 11CBS. “To me, it’s really horrifying because I don’t know who would do this to a church,” the child said referring to the house of worship. Dallas police have sent detectives from their gang unit to investigate the incident, according to WFAA, an ABC network affiliated local station.
Now devotees will build a fence around the entire property to keep vandals out.
Both Hindus and non-Hindus have offered to help the temple clean the damage.
This is the third such incident in three months. Two temples were vandalized in Washington State in February.
On February 15, unidentified miscreants sprayed swastika and painted “Get Out” on one of the walls of the Bothell Hindu Temple in the Seattle Metropolitan area.
On February 26, vandals used bricks to break several windows and then painted the word “fear” on the wall of the Kent Hindu Temple.
