Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | Jan 13, 2017::  Just before forthcoming elections in five states including Uttar Pradesh, Ministry of Minority Affairs on Thursday formed a six member panel to look into if the Haj subsidy should continue and its quantum.

The Ministry headed by BJP MP Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi is yet to announce the members of the committee. The panel has not been given any time frame to submit its report, sources in the ministry said.

The news also come close on the heels of of Saudi Arabia raising India’s Haj quota by about 34,000 taking the total number of pilgrims allowed to do the annual pilgrimage. Now a total of 1,70,025 Indians will be doing the Islamic pilgrimage in Arabia.

India is the only country where the Haj subsidy is given to the Indian Muslims by the Union Govt in the form of discounted air fares on government owned Air India on the flights between Mumbai to Jeddah. The amount on air travel charged per pilgrim during Haj 2014 was Rs 35,000  whereas the actual air fare ranged from Rs. 63,750 to Rs. 1,64,350 depending on the point of boarding. Though such subsidy for Haj is totally un Islamic, Indian Govt allows this subsidy around Rs. 650 crore every year under an atmosphere of the politics of Muslim appeasement.

The subsidy has been in place since 1954 as introduced by Ist Indian PM Jawaharlal Nehru . The Haj Committee of India has placed new norms under which a pilgrim can avail the subsidy only once in lifetime.

But what is most relevant here that in the month of May 2012, the Supreme Court of India gave order to phase out Haj subsidy in ten yrs.+ Then, the Supreme Court struck down the government’s policy of giving subsidies to Haj pilgrims and directed that it should be progressively “eliminated” within a period of 10 years.

“We hold that this policy is best done away with,” a bench of justices Altamas Kabir and Ranjana Prakash Desai held in the order. (Read: Supreme Court’s full order on Haj subsidy)+.

In such a situation, the present Modi Govt must reveal the ‘decrease of Haj Subsidy’ within these 5 years after 2012 as per Supreme Court order.

This year arrangement being made for 1,70,025 Momins. They enjoy the Kaffir’s money as Haj subsidy. No Problem, but Constitution of India is a big problem to them. They want Shariah here.
