Amid burqa ban debate, Muslim body bans head & face covers (Hijab) in school-colleges in Kerala’s Malappuram district.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | Calicut | May 3, 2019:: When pseudo Pakistani and politically motivated Muslim intellectuals in India like Javed Akhter+ and partisan Muslim Politicians like Asaduddin Owaisi+ & Majeed Memon+ are directly or indirectly opposing the demand of Burqa Ban of Shiv Sena+, a news hits the headlines as a Muslim educational body banned burka/face veil/head scarf in recent from the school-college units run by them.

A major controversy has erupted in the southern Indian state of Kerala after a college in the state’s Malappuram district banned burqa from its school and college premises. What makes this move a massive development the decision has been taken in a Muslim majority region in the state.

The circular was passed by the Muslim Education Society in Calicut on April 17 and it states that burqas in all schools and colleges under MES will be banned. There is a court order that says any dress with is against the changing society should not be permitted, which includes not just burqa but other kinds of dress which they think is not proper. The MES runs 35 colleges and 72 schools, and has around one lakh students on its rolls.

The third paragraph in the circular clearly states that any dress that covers the face fo the woman should be banned.

Various Muslim Clerics and their influential groups have opposed the ban so far.

On Wednesday, Shiv Sena triggered a massive row in a controversial editorial of its mouthpiece Saamna where it demanded a burqa ban in public places and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to follow Sri Lanka’s suit, which banned face veils after deadly bomb blasts ripped through the country on Easter Sunday. Calling for the burqa ban, Shiv Sena said in the editorial that when it could be outlawed in “Ravan’s Lanka, when will it happen in Ram’s Ayodhya?”

The Uddhav Thackery-led party, which is in alliance government with the BJP in Maharashtra, claimed in the editorial that the need of the hour was to not only ban triple talaq in the country but also the burqa. The editorial argued that those hiding their faces in public could “become a threat to national security” and hence the government needs to ban the burqa in public spaces.

The Sena later issued a clarification stating that the piece might have been the personal opinion of the editor.

Actually, BJP and Shiv Sena both are hiding their ‘Maan Ki Baat’ (Talk of the Mind) as they also think that Muslims are more precious voters than Hindus! India is going through its 17th General Election to elect its members to form the next Govt. BJP already opposed the Burqa ban proposal as published in Shiv Sena mouthpiece+.

Though the Burqa- face veil-head scarf ban imposed by Muslim Education Society has no direct connection with the Burqa Ban in Sri Lanka after multiple Easter Attacks upon Churches and Hotels+, but the ban in Kerala has created a sharp contrast in Muslim society on the use of Burqa or Hijab.
