Muslim Man chews off finger of Hindu co-passenger in Mumbai local train during a heated argument for standing space .
Iram Siddique | Mumbai Mirror | Mumbai | Sept 21, 2019:: An argument over a standing spot next to the door in a packed Asangaon peak-time local on Thursday evening took a bloody turn, with one passenger chewing off a part of the other’s index finger. While the victim underwent a corrective surgery on Friday evening, the accused was arrested at Thane station by the GRP after fellow commuters alerted the police.
..
The 34-year-old victim, Mahesh Pandurang Dhumbre, works for an insurance firm and lives in Ghansoli. At 5.40 pm, he boarded the first-class compartment of the train from Dadar. The accused, identified as Asif Yusuf Shaikh, 25, boarded the train at the next station, Kurla. While Dhumbre was already standing next to the door with two other commuters, Shaikh tried to make space next to them. Dhumbre told Mirror, “He was trying to push in but there was hardly any space. As a result, he ended up stopping other people from getting in. So I pulled him in.” Shaikh, in turn, pushed Dhumbre away.
..
According to eyewitness accounts, push turned to shove and the men got into a heated argument. They later told GRP personnel that Shaikh used abusive language with Dhumbre and pulled his collar so hard that his shirt buttons came off. Dhumbre apparently fought back and held him by his neck, which is when Shaikh bit his finger and held it tight between his teeth.
..
Speaking to Mirror, Dhumbre recalled that the pain was so sharp that he screamed and shut his eyes tight. A few second later, when he opened his eyes all he saw was blood on Shaikh’s shirt and his mouth. “I thought I had injured him. But then I saw a dislodged part of my finger in his mouth. It was me who was bleeding profusely,” said Dhumbre, who lost one cm distal phalanx of the index finger of his right hand.
..
Dhumbre said he stood shocked as Shaikh continued to hurl abuses at him after spitting out the bloody piece of finger. According to the FIR registered with GRP Kurla, Shaikh threatened to throw Dhumbre out of the train but was held back by fellow commuters. One of the passengers called the railway helpline number. When the train pulled in at Thane station, two GRP personnel arrested Shaikh after a short chase.
..
Dhumbre’s elder brother Yogesh said, “The doctors say they are not sure if they will be able to salvage the finger completely, but will try to restore the portion for the nail to grow back.”
..
Mirror could not contact Shaikh as he was in police custody at the time of filing this report. He has been booked under sections 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 504 (intentionally insulting and provoking to break the public peace) of the Indian Penal Code.

Why does not the ‘secular’ press – the Indian Express and Times of India – report such a heinous incident. Those cannibals must also be liking the ‘bravery’ of the chewer of the finger
