No RSS shakha, drills, karyakram in notified temple premises: Travancore Devaswom Board

Daily Shakha

In an anti-Hindutva mode, Left controlled Travancore Devaswom Board prohibits RSS drills on temple premises in Kerala.

B Upendran | HENB | Thiruvananthapuram | May 23, 2023:: Now the Left- Islamist-Evangelist forces reigning in the State of Kerala reinforced its modality to suppress the Hindutva activities in a vindictive manner. The  Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) under Pinarayi Vijayan Govt has issued a directive to all temples under its control, not to allow daily activities (shakha), mass drills, and other activities organized by RSS on the temple premises.

Though a restriction in this regard is already in place, the new directive has come in the wake of reports that RSS activities are still continuing in a few temples notified under TDB across the state.

The devaswom board has made it clear that other than the temple festivals and rituals, the temple premises should not be used for any other purposes. Strict action will be taken against the officers who fail to comply with the order, said the circular issued by the board.

The LDF government had also come out against RSS using the temple premises for their physical training with or without weapons. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan himself had criticized RSS for using the temple premises for their shakhas and physical training.

The devaswom board officials said not just RSS, no organizations or political parties will be allowed to use temple premises for other purposes. The deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, administrative officers, and sub-group officers of the board have been asked to take steps to ban such activities and report the same to the head office.

Talking about the circular, TDB president Ananthagopan said, “RSS shakhas were functioning in many temples, they were performing drills and such activities were taking place. That’s the reason why such a circular was issued. Temples are for the believers, there should not be any inconvenience for the devotees to worship. That’s the stand of Dewaswom board. To bring to the notice of officials, the circular has been reissued.”

TDB issued a similar directive in March 2021 too. This was based on a complaint received by the board. However, it was found that a few TDB officials were supporting such activities in a few temples under the board. There are 1,242 temples under TDB.

The move to ban RSS activities in the temples started in 2016 when the LDF government came to power. Then the government issued a circular using the relevant sections of the Kerala Police Act in the wake of complaints that RSS was holding drills with or without weapons inside the temple premises. However, the directives as per the circular were not imposed strictly.

In short, it may be clarified that the present Kerala Govt does not impose any ban on any Islamist (may it be aligned with ISIS and other Jihadi activities) or any Evangelist activism (connected to proselytization or sex scandal) in any Mosque or Church in the state respectively, but the Hindutva related activities cannot be allowed in any temple premises under Travancore Devaswom Board as decided by the Muslim and Christian influenced Marxist Govt in Kerala.
