Canadian Hindus ‘soft targets’, says Indian-origin MP; urges them to stay calm.

Canada Situation

Canada: Liberal party MP Chandra Arya alleges threats against Hindus by Khalisatni extremists, urges them not to leave Canada, but to stay calm and vigilant.

Tajinder Singh Pal Bagga | HENB | New Delhi | Sept 21, 2023:: In response to a recent video by a Khalistani leader threatening and requesting Hindu Canadians to leave the nation, Indian-origin MP Chandra Arya on Thursday has called upon Hindu Canadians to “stay calm but vigilant” amid a diplomatic faceoff between India and Canada over the death of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar and ‘report cases of Hinduphobia to local law enforcement authorities’, in a long statement on X (formerly Twitter). Emboldened by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claims, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a certified Khalistani terrorist in India and leader of the banned Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), asked Indo-Canadian Hindus to leave the country, shocking and terrifying the community.

Earlier, New York-based secessionist Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has warned the Hindu community of Canada to leave the country and return to India while alleging that they were acting against the interests of the North American country.

Spewing venom against Indo-Canadian Hindus, general counsel of outlawed (in India) Sikh body, Sikh for Justice (SFJ) Gurpatwant Singh Pannun alleged that Indo-Hindus had unleashed a nefarious and aggressive campaign that was detrimental to Canadian interests especially after Canada suspended trade with India due to “interference in its internal affairs”.

While giving a call “Leave Canada – Go To India”, he further alleged “Indo-Hindus who work against the interests of Canada have effectively repudiated their allegiance to Canada. They must go back to India, the country whose interests they protect and promote while reaping the economic benefits from Canada”.

He also claimed that Indo-Hindus living in Canada had celebrated the assassination of Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar who was shot dead in the parking of a gurdwara in Surrey, Canada in the recent past, Pannun said, “Canada has no place for those Indo-Hindus who are siding with India in suppressing freedom of expression and in promoting violence against Pro Khalistan Sikhs”.

Designated as a terrorist by Union home ministry in 2020 under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967, Pannun informed that SFJ would hold Khalistan Referendum-II on October 29, 2023, in Surrey, BC, Canada and also declared to hold “Shaheed Nijjar Kill India Referendum” on the question: “Is Indian High Commissioner Verma Responsible For The Assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar?”

In the recent past, the SFJ had held an unofficial Khalistan Referendum event at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey on September 10 which saw a poor turnout from the Sikh community.

The Khalisatn situation in Canada worsened after PM  Justin Trudeau passed some irresponsible remarks against India. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday (Sept 18, 2023) there was credible evidence of ties between India’s government and the assassination of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, carried out in Canada in June. However, The Indian government denies the allegation.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s startling allegation, tying the killing of Canadian Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June, to “agents of the Government of India”, marks a new low in their unravelling ties. Mr. Trudeau’s accusation — he said evidence had been shared with India and also raised in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last weekend — has set off a chain of events.

After Canada expelled a senior Indian diplomat, India summoned the Canadian High Commissioner and expelled Canada’s Station chief for intelligence on Tuesday. The United States and Australia, partners with Canada in the “Five Eyes” intelligence sharing agreement, have expressed “deep concerns” over the issue. The External Affairs Ministry has also accused Canadian diplomats of “anti-India” activities, indicating that more diplomats may be under scrutiny, while the Canadian government has spoken about the violation of the international rule of law, and of Canadian “sovereignty”, which could invoke other areas of confrontation. Given the support Mr. Trudeau received from his political rivals in Parliament, remarks critical of India by leaders such as Pierre Poilievre and Jagmeet Singh, it is also likely that the chill will outlast this government, if voted out in elections due in 2025. Unlike with Pakistan, where such allegations, name-calling and public confrontation have become routine, it is worth remembering that Canada is a part of the western NATO alliance, and home to Indians and Indian-origin Canadians, and the impact of the rupture will be felt wider.

Khalistanis in Canada have been targeting Hindu temples to lodge their protest against India for years in a very inappropriate manner. Several times they have also dishonored the Indian national Flag in public.

India is getting harder against anti-India and anti-Hindu Khalistani secessionists raising in Canada.
