Hindus take out rallies in Kolkata with a demand to release Chinmoy Krishna Das.

Subhra Baske | HENB | Kolkata | Nov 28, 2024:: Hindus in Kolkata took to the streets, demanding the release of ISKCON saint Chinmoy Krishna from a Bangladeshi jail. Krishna, a prominent figure in the Hindutva movement, was arrested by Bangladeshi police under the interim government of Muhammad Yunus, allegedly for a false sedition case.

The arrest sparked outrage, particularly after a saffron flag was spotted flying above the Bangladeshi national flag in Chattogram, about a kilometer away from a protest rally organized by Hindu organizations. The rally aimed to condemn the recent attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

On Thursday afternoon, members of various Hindu organizations, led by saffron-robed saints and monks, staged a rally from Sealdah Station Complex to Bangladesh Deputy High Commission Office, demanding the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari.

In response to a call from Hindu Jagran Manch, a massive rally was organized in Kolkata, with members from various Hindu organizations like Hindu Samhati, Hindu Samaj Kalyan Samiti, Singha Vahini, and Namhatta Unity participating enthusiastically. Notably, a large number of female participants joined the rally, showcasing their solidarity with the cause. The rally aimed to demand the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, an ISKCON saint imprisoned in Bangladesh.

The protest rally in Kolkata was a powerful expression of solidarity with the Hindu community in Bangladesh. The demonstrators demanded the immediate release of Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu, a prominent Hindu leader and priest who was taken into custody by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on 25.11.2024.

The protesters also emphasised the need to protect minority Hindus in Bangladesh, ensuring their human rights are upheld. This concern is deeply rooted in the history of the region and the ongoing struggles of the Hindu community.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has also urged the Indian government to intervene and secure Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu’s release. The situation highlights the importance of international cooperation in protecting human rights and religious freedom.

Earlier,  BJP and Congress held protest in Bengal demanding release of Chinmoy Krishna Das. BJP leaders, led by Suvendu Adhikari, protested outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Kolkata over the arrest of ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das on Wednesday. They demanded his release, alleging religious persecution in Bangladesh. ISKCON representatives also condemned the arrest, emphasizing the organization’s peaceful nature and charitable work, questioning the basis of the accusations.

WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also condemned the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh following the protest of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi against the ‘extremely worrying’ arrest of ISKCON priest,
