Udayan Barua | HENB | Goalpara  | April 2025::  Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the importance of unity among the state’s tribal people, linguistic communities and Hindus, cautioning that failure to do so would leave them vulnerable to illegal Bangladeshi Muslim immigrants through Islamic infiltration.

Addressing an election rally in Goalpara district’s Dudhnoi, ahead of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) polls on April 2, Sarma urged the communities to come together, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cannot be defeated if the people remain united.

Sarma’s comments came as the BJP, in alliance with the Rabha Hasong Joutha Mancha (RHJM), seeks to retain power in the council. The chief minister asserted that the BJP has established harmony among all communities in the state, ensuring that illegal immigrants are kept at bay.

“We need unity, harmony, and if we are not together like one family, Bangladeshis (illegal immigrants) will snatch our land and property. They will not even let us survive,” Sarma warned.

The chief minister also hit out at the Congress, holding it responsible for the death of 24 people during the movement for an autonomous council for the Rabha community. He demanded that the Congress apologize for these deaths before seeking votes in the region.

In addition to emphasizing unity, Sarma outlined various welfare schemes and measures being undertaken by the government for various sections of people, including women and youth. He announced a new scheme, set to launch next month, which will provide women self-help groups (SHGs) with Rs 10,000 this year, increasing to Rs 25,000 next year if the amount is spent productively.

Sarma assured the gathering that his government is committed to building a “new Assam” where youth are educated and can access employment transparently. The RHAC polls, scheduled for April 2, will see voters from 40 constituencies cast their ballots, with the counting of votes set to take place on April 4.

unite and do what. Criminals have several ways to break crime, but even if Hindus unite, until Judiciary allows us to do crime, Hindus won’t.
