Tutul Nath | HENB | Dhaka | July 6, 2025:: A heinous crime has shaken the residents of Panchagarh’s Sadar Upazila, where a Hindu mother was gang-raped by six Muslims while her one-and-a-half-year-old son was held hostage with a knife to his throat. The incident occurred on Friday night near a tea garden in the Tin Mile Surivita area.
According to the victim’s statement, she was traveling with her sick son on an easy bike when a familiar driver began following her, calling out her name. As soon as she stopped, six people, including four acquaintances, overpowered her and took her to a secluded area adjacent to the tea garden. There, they held a knife to her son’s throat and raped her in turns, leaving her unconscious.
Arrests and Investigation
The police swiftly responded to a 999 call and rescued the mother and child, admitting them to Modern Sadar Hospital. Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Hill Zaman reported that four suspects have been arrested so far: Johnny Islam, 27; Biplob Hossain, 25; Makchedul Islam, 33; and Sadequl Islam, 28. A manhunt is underway for the remaining two accused.
Victim’s Statement and Medical Examination
The victim, a housewife, has lodged a complaint under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act, seeking exemplary justice. Resident doctor Abul Kashem confirmed that necessary evidence is being collected, and the rape case will be confirmed after examination. The victim is currently physically stable.
Background and Context
Panchagarh, a district in Rangpur Division, Bangladesh, has witnessed previous incidents of violence against women. In August 2022, a tenth-grade schoolgirl was allegedly raped by six men, including her boyfriend, in Tetulia upazila. In another case, a fugitive accused in a gang rape case was arrested in 2025 after three years on the run.
Local Reaction and Demand for Justice
The local community is outraged, demanding swift justice for the victim and her child. The police are working to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice, and the victim receives the necessary support and protection. As the investigation unfolds, the nation waits with bated breath for justice to be served.
B’desh shaping as a Rapists’ State
It is worth noting that earlier on June 26, a woman was raped by breaking the door of a house in Muradnagar, Comilla. A video of the incident was circulated on social media. Later, the police arrested three accused persons, including the main accused.
The Hindu woman have reportedly been gang-raped by extremists linked to Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP. Locals allege the attackers targeted the victims based on their religious identity.
Bangladesh is rapidly shaping into a rapists’ nation under the regime of the interim government headed by Prof. Yunus. Islamist people usually target Hindu women and girls for ‘Rape Jihad’ to quench their sexual thirst.
