VHP to Celebrate 61st Foundation Day with 1 lakh Grand Events Across India.

VHP’s Grand Quest for Unity: 9-Day Campaign to Promote Hindutva Across India through 1 Lakh Programmes.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | Aug 8, 2025:: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) is gearing up to celebrate its 61st foundation day with a grand nine-day program starting August 16. The organization plans to organize events in at least 1 lakh places across the country, with a focus on cultural assimilation and unity within the Hindu community.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) is a prominent Indian right-wing Hindutva organization, established in 1964 by M.S. Golwalkar, then RSS Chief, S.S. Apte, a senior RSS Pracharak, and Swami Chinmayananda in a grand Hindu conclave at the Sandipani Ashram in Mumbai (then Bombay). With a stated objective of organizing, consolidating, and serving Hindu society while protecting Hindu Dharma, the VHP functions as a key member of the Sangh Parivar, a collective of Hindutva organizations spearheaded by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a well-known nationalist Hindutva  organization.

Mass Mobilization Drive

The VHP’s national spokesperson, Vinod Bansal, said that the idea behind the event is to unify the Hindu community across the country on cultural parameters while adhering to its core Hindutva narrative. The organization plans to organize religious sermons, satsangs, prabhat pheris, and shobha yatras, which will be channeled by around 90,000 samitis formed at the hyper-local level.

Inclusivity and Cultural Assimilation

The VHP’s efforts aim to cut across caste and linguistic lines within the Hindu group, promoting cultural assimilation and unity. The organization will reach out to Buddhist maths, Jain temples, and gurdwaras, and involve Dalit communities like Ravidasia and Valmiki.

Massive Presence

In Uttar Pradesh alone, the VHP plans to organize programs in at least 8,000 locations, including prominent Hindutva nerve centers like Ayodhya, Kashi (Varanasi), and Mathura. The organization’s aim to organize programs in 1 lakh locations nationwide signals a mass mobilization drive on a scale reminiscent of earlier campaigns like the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.

Reinforcing Ideological Synergy

Analysts believe that the VHP’s grassroots penetration could be used to reinforce the VHP-BJP ideological synergy at the local level, gauge public sentiment, and mobilize cadres for future political contests. The campaign may also help pre-empt opposition narratives rooted in caste identity politics.

A Unifying Cultural Force

Experts see the VHP’s efforts as an attempt to position Hindutva as a unifying cultural force, rather than just a political doctrine. The organization’s inclusive approach may help broaden its social base and reinforce its ideological ties with the BJP. The VHP’s 61st foundation day celebrations coincide with the RSS’s wider centenary celebrations, marking a significant moment in the history of India’s right-wing organizations.
