YouTuber Dhruv Rathee Faces Legal Scrutiny as Delhi Court Seeks Action Taken Report Over Alleged Anti-Hindu Video.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | June 12, 2026:: Popular YouTuber and social commentator Dhruv Rathee has come under legal scrutiny after a Delhi court sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the police regarding a criminal complaint alleging that one of his videos hurt Hindu religious sentiments and promoted communal disharmony.

The matter is currently before the Saket District Court, which on June 9 directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of the concerned police station to submit a detailed report outlining any action taken on the complaint filed against Rathee. The court has also sought clarification on whether any cognizable offence is made out, whether an FIR has been registered, and the current status of any investigation, if initiated.

The case has been scheduled for further hearing on September 10, 2026, when the court is expected to review the police report.

Complaint Seeks FIR Against Rathee

The complaint has been filed by advocate Amita Sachdeva through legal counsel led by advocate Makarand D. Adkar and others. The complainant has requested the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Rathee, alleging that he uploaded and published a video containing derogatory remarks about revered Hindu figures and scriptures.

According to the complaint, Sachdeva became aware of the video on or around March 21, 2026. She alleges that the content was highly offensive and defamatory toward key figures of the Hindu faith, including Lord Shri Ram, Sita Mata, and Lord Shri Krishna.

The complaint further claims that the video systematically distorted Hindu religious texts, mocked the sanctity of Sanatan Dharma, and promoted communal discord by linking dietary practices with caste divisions and political narratives.

Allegations of Distortion and Religious Insult

A central allegation in the complaint concerns Rathee’s discussion of references from Hindu scriptures such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. According to the complainant, Rathee selectively interpreted or distorted scriptural references while making claims that revered Hindu deities and figures consumed non-vegetarian food and alcohol.

Sachdeva argues that these statements were presented in a manner that insulted Hindu beliefs and traditions, thereby offending millions of followers of Sanatan Dharma.

The complaint states that the video was viewed by a large audience and allegedly contributed to the spread of anti-Hindu sentiment. It further alleges that the content was intended to undermine Hindu unity and create hostility toward Hindu religious practices and institutions.

Court Seeks Detailed Police Response

In its June 9 order, the Saket District Court directed the concerned SHO to provide a comprehensive report addressing several key questions. These include:

  • Whether any complaint regarding the matter has been received by the police.
  • Whether any action has been taken on such complaints.
  • Whether the allegations disclose the commission of any cognizable offence.
  • Whether an FIR has been registered against the accused.
  • The status of any investigation that may be underway.

The court’s direction does not constitute a finding of guilt but is part of the judicial process aimed at determining whether further legal action is warranted based on the complaint and available evidence.

Complainant’s Position

In her complaint, Sachdeva has alleged that the video deliberately insulted revered Hindu scriptures and practices and sought to malign the social and religious fabric of the Hindu community.

She contends that Rathee used his significant online influence irresponsibly by making statements that, according to her, were offensive, provocative, and capable of causing distress among Hindus.

The complaint states that such content amounts to an abuse of influence and has the potential to incite communal disharmony and religious tensions.

Broader Context

The case highlights the continuing debate in India over freedom of expression, religious sensitivities, and the responsibilities of digital content creators with large audiences. Public figures and online commentators often face scrutiny when discussing religious history, scriptures, and cultural practices, particularly when interpretations differ from traditional beliefs.

As the matter progresses, the court will examine the police response and determine whether further legal proceedings are necessary. No judicial determination has yet been made regarding the truth of the allegations, and the case remains under consideration.

The next significant development is expected on September 10, 2026, when the Action Taken Report is scheduled to be placed before the Saket District Court.
