Security alert in Ayodhya. VHP dares The Yatra Ban. Ashok Singhal under house arrest.

Ayodhya Yatra: 64 VHP leaders held, Ashok Singhal under house arrest.

Jai Sri RamAgra | First Post | 24 Aug 2013:: Fifty ascetics from Rajasthan headed, by bus, to Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh to undertake the 84-kosi parikrama were arrested around midnight at the Chauma Shahpur border and sent to jail temporarily.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shalabh Mathur said the ascetics will be lodged for a while at the police lines in Agra.

On Friday, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal was placed under house arrest in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh as part of the clampdown on the saints’ community moving for the 84 ‘kosi parikrama’ scheduled for August 25 from Ayodhya. Read more here>>>

VHP dares The Yatra Ban; says ‘The 84-Kosi Parikrama of Ayodhya would take place as scheduled’

‘The 84-Kosi Parikrama of Ayodhya would take place as scheduled! U.P. Government should review its decision of crushing the 84-Kosi Ayodhya Parikrama of Sants and seers coming from all over the country, otherwise Hindus should remain ready for a peaceful and democratic struggle’  – Ashok Singhal, Patron, VHP.

Jai Sri RamaNew Delhi | Samvad Org |   20 Aug 2013::  VHP PRESS RESEALE. On August 17 Sat, 2013, post-meet of the Sri Rama Janma Bhumi Temple Construction Sant High-Power Committee, an 11-member Sant Delegation called on Sri Mulayam Singhji Yadav and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Sri Akhilesh Singhji at their residence in Lucknow. The conversation with Sri Mulayam Singhji continued for about two hours. Sri Mulayam Singhji dropped hints that the Sants should call off the scheduled 84-Kosi Yatra in view of the aggressive designs of China and Pakistan. On there being no comment on this from the Sants, he said that the 84-Kosi Yatra tithis (dates) are fixed, this Yatra takes place in the month of Chaitra, and, therefore, no new tradition could be initiated. On this the Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Ven. Swami Rambhadracharyaji Maharaj made it clear that the 84-Kosi Yatra is a tradition that has been there for thousands of years with the belief that it gives deliverance to the performer from the cycle of 84-Lakh Yonis. Just as the Kamadgiri Parikrama at Chitrakoot, Govardhan Hill Parikrama at Braj Mandal, 84-Kosi Parikrama of Braj Kshetra and the Thiruvannamalai Parikrama of the Sacred Arunachala Hill in South India can be undertaken at any time of the year and no specific time-frame is fixed for it, similarly the 84-Kosi Parikrama of Ayodhya can also be undertaken at any time of the year.

Sri Mulayam Singhji told the delegation that he would make efforts, after consultations with the local authorities, so that the Yatra could take place. At no point during the conversation did the delegation have an inkling that he was against this Yatra or that any sort of ban would be imposed on it. The Sants were fully confident that this Yatra would be undertaken peacefully. But yesterday’s Government notification was surprising as to the barrier that came in between that compelled overnight Sri Mulayam Singhji and the Chief Minister of U.P. for a volte-face and change of mind and in order to stop this Yatra they clamped Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to prohibit assembly of people in all those districts around Ayodhya that host the progressive legs of the 84-Kosi Parikrama (Circumambulation). This decision of the Government is not only unfortunate but also one of tyranny on the Hindu society with a view to playing to the gallery of Muslim Vote Bankers. There is not an iota of doubt in it that they are out to crush Hindu feelings only under pulls and pressures from the Muslim leaders entrenched in their own party.

Sri Mulayam Singhji and the Congress leaders have been telling it again and again that the court’s verdict should be awaited. When the Court verdict after 60 years has already come that where Sri Ram Lala is Virajman today that is His Birthplace, it was the duty of Sri Mulayam Singhji to mobilize the Muslim religious leaders to honour and materialize their word to “…voluntarily hand over the…” Sri Rama Janma Bhumi (Ayodhya) “…shrine to the Hindus” (vide Paras 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 of the White Paper of Government of India). Instead of doing this, Sri Mulayam Singhji’s move to oppose and oppress the Yatra is not only a violation of the Constitutional rights of Hindus but a gag and betrayal of the Hindu society. The Hindu society is no longer ready to tolerate it. This Dharmic Yatra is being undertaken by the Sants and seers coming from all the States of the country. This circumambulatory pilgrimage would take place as scheduled as it is the directive of the Sant Fraternity.

We would request Sri Mulayam Singhji Yadav and the Chief Minister of U.P. Sri Akhilesh Yadavji that before going ahead armed with their state machinery to crush the Dharmic feelings of the Sant Fraternity they should review their decision. If they do not do this then the Hindu society, in order to defend its rights, should remain ready to wedge a struggle through peaceful and democratic way.

Security alert in Ayodhya as VHP prepares for 84-kosi parikrama despite state government ban

Crackdown: Security personnel carry out checks at shops in Ayodhya

By PIYUSH SRIVASTAVA | Daily Mail | 21 Aug 2013:: It’s like 1990 all over again. The state government seems to be preparing for a showdown in Ayodhya once Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) sadhus begin trickling in from all over the country on August 25 for their planned 84-kosi parikrama of Ayodhya.

The 1990 confrontation between the state government and saffron supporters turned volatile.

On that occasion, despite a friendly meeting with VHP leader Ashok Singhal to allow the 14-kosi parikrama, Samajwadi Party (SP) president and then chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had held a public meeting in Ayodhya on September 16, 1990 and suggested that devotees stay away from the ritual. No one listened and a large number of devotees or kar sewaks were arrested over the next two months.

As it turned out, the parikrama was a warm-up exercise for the VHP. On October 30, 1990, kar sewaks barged into the restricted Babri Masjid area. Mulayam ordered the police to open fire; many kar sewaks were killed. The VHP put the toll from firing at 59, but the Centre said it was 15.

“It had happened at that time that Mulayam and the VHP had developed such proximity that nobody believed that he would order killing of the kar sewaks. The entire episode had politically benefited the BJP and SP,” said Anil Kumar Singh, a reader at Saket Degree College in Faizabad.

“The situation is more or less the same now. Mulayam and his son, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, gave a warm reception to Singhal and Swami Chinmayanand when they met in Lucknow on August 17. While in 1989, they wanted permission for 14-kosi parikrama, this time they sought permission for 84- kosi parikrama. And now the government has denied permission and the VHP has announced that they won’t listen. Obviously both the SP and VHP are playing a dirty game with the people,” Singh added.

For the record, there is tradition of three kinds of parikrama around Ayodhya. The 84-kosi parikrama covers about 135km and passes through Faizabad, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Bahraich and Shrawasti. The 14-kosi Parikrama cover about 25km around the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi site. Then there is a tradition of panch kosi parikrama which covers about 8km near the disputed site.

The yatra in the eye of a storm

Dirty politics

VHP leader Ram Vilas Vedanti said the SP’s Muslim leaders have aggravated the crisis with their short-sightedness.

“The government had no problem with the programme. But some Muslim leaders of the SP like Urban Development Minister Azam Khan are creating hurdles. The fact is that 84-kosi parikrama is done by the saints at regular intervals round the year. On an average, there are not more than 200 saints in parikrama. So there was no threat to law and order. It is 14- kosi and panch-kosi parikrama in which a large number of devotees participate and there is law and order problem,” Vedanti said.

Shailesh Kumar Kannajia, a shop keeper near Hanuman Garhi, alleged that the VHP is hand-in-glove with the SP, and that they are turning Ayodhya into a war-zone.

“We have heard that there were already 16 companies of paramilitary forces in Ayodhya. Now the government has called 12 companies of PAC, two companies of RAF and a battalion of CRPF. They may convert Ayodhya into a war-zone to polarise the Hindu and the Muslim votes around the BJP and the SP respectively.

“The SP government had recently provided security to Vedanti, who is facing many criminal cases. We all know that the VHP is the religious wing of the RSS and works for political gain of the BJP,” he said.

“You can see how crudely the SP government wants to deal with the situation. Remember how then chief minister Mayawati had successfully and silently maintained law and order on September 30, 2010 when Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court had pronounced its order on Ram Janmabhoomi- Babri Masjid?” Kannajia added.

When the saints go marching in

Milking the situation for what it’s worth, VHP leaders on Wednesday evening went underground after announcing to their close followers that they were doing so to avoid arrest before August 25, the day the 84-kosi parikrama of Ayodhya is scheduled to begin.

VHP sources told Mail Today that they have formed at least 250 teams of saints to participate in the parkirama every day.

“If one team is arrested, the other team will resume parikrama. Our plan is to divide the teams in such a way that we can continue our parikrama for at least two months. There are a large number of our followers who are planning to welcome us when we pass through their villages and many of them will also join us. The government would not be able to stop it,” a VHP leader said on condition of anonymity.

VHP leaders also released a pamphlet of scheduled events from August 25 to September 13. They have decided to shorten the yatra and begin mass mobilisation to pressure on the Centre for a law on the construction of a temple.

According to the pamphlet, saints from Kanpur and Jaipur would start their parikrama from the Saryu river in Ayodhya early on August 25 to reach the village of Makhaura in Basti by evening. The team will continue parikrama on August 26 from Makhaura and pass through Rajwapur and Ram Rekha before returning to Makhaura the same day. All these places are in Basti.

Myth has it that Makh Rishi had his Ashram in Makhaura and he had done a yagya for the birth of Lord Ram. Dashrath, the king of Ayodhya and father of Ram, had attended the yagya. The saints of Kashi (Varanasi) prant would do their parikrama from Ram Rekha on August 27 and return to the same place in the evening. This is how the Parikrama will continue till September 13, passing through all those spots in five districts around Ayodhya, including Faizabad, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Bahraich and Shrawasti.

Hindus have been subservient to the Muslims for too long. The adage “All religions are my religion” no longer applies. We have to stand steadfast or soon India will become a Muslim country. Arise Hindus, get rid of these Hindu poltical leaders who are sucking up to the muslims for their own personal interests. Vande mataram. Jai Hind.
