B Upendran | HENB | Udupi | June 28, 2017:: Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Adhokshaja Mutt, who is the only living founder Member of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and known for his affiliation with the VHP, on Saturday organised an ‘iftaar’ at the Udupi Krishna Math. Around 150 Muslims, who came for the ‘iftaar’, also offered ‘namaz’ at the ‘Anna Brahma’ dining hall in the math on June 24. The Swamiji himself served dates to the Muslims, who ended Ramzan fasting at the hall.

Pramod Muthalik, founder of Sri Rama Sene, on Monday opposed Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt for organising the Iftar at the Annabrahma Building in the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple complex.

However, Vishwesha Tirtha Swami defended his move. Both Mr. Muthalik and the Pejawar seer held a closed-door meeting at the Badagu Malige on the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple premises here on the issue. After the meeting, both of them stuck to their respective stands.

After the meeting Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt said, “I have done nothing wrong. It was a simple programme. However, one section of the society has criticized me for creating disharmony . Hinduism always talks about being good with other religions. When Hinduism faced problems, we fought to protect it over thousands of years. I did not mean to hurt anyone by organizing the get together. It was a gesture of friendship, peace and unity. The iftar meet was organized to spread harmony among the Hindu and Muslim community. A lot of Muslim friends contributed to the Mutt during the Paryaya. Recently when a group of Hindus threatened to storm into the Mutt, several Muslims expressed solidarity with us.”

Speaking to HENB, Muthalik said that the seer’s move of allowing the gathering of Muslims to break their fast by offering fruits and to pray at Annabrahma Building in the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple premises was an “insult” to the Hindu community.

“Lord Krishna is known as the protector of cows. Inviting inside a Krishna Temple, those who kill cows and eat beef is incorrect. The Pejawar seer guides the Hindu religion and Vishwa Hindu Parishad. We are fighting on the streets for protecting cows without bothering about our lives. But the seer’s move of inviting Muslims to the Mutt premises cannot be accepted.Will Pejawar Swami organise a Sri Krihna janmastami in a Mosque?” an aggrieved Muthalik told HENB.

“There is anger over the seer’s move. In order to prevent any protests, I came here to hold talks with the seer on the issue. But the seer is sticking to his stand, which we cannot accept and it is painful to see that Go-bhaksaks (cow eaters) are taking the control of Hindu Society instead of Go-Rakshaks (cow protectors),” he said.

Sri Rama Sene has decided to hold a big protest On July 2, against Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji’s gesture to host Iftar get-together for Muslims in Sri Krishna Math premises, hurting the Hindu sentiments.

To nullify the Sri Ram Sene protest Congress and BJP has been united at the stand point of defending Krishna Mutt for hosting its ‘Iftaar Souharda Koota’.

A day after Sri Rama Sene leader Pramod Muthalik visited the city and expressed objection to the recent Iftar Souharda Koota organized at Sri Krishna Math led by Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji, the Youth Congress on Tuesday June 27 hit out at Muthalik alleging that he was trying to spoil peace and communal harmony in Udupi.

Addressing a press meet here, distrist Youth Congress president Vishwas Amin said, “When people of all religions and communities are living in harmony in Udupi, Sri Rama Sene leader Pramod Muthalik is trying to disrupt peace. He is doing this for propaganda.

“On July 2, the Sri Rama Sene will hold a protest against Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji’s gesture to host Iftar get-together for Muslims in Sri Krishna Math premises. Youth Congress strongly condemns this. We will not allow the protest to take place, and if need be, will hold a counter protest on the same day with police permission. And if they try to gherao the Sri Krishna Math, we will stand with Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji and extend support,” he said.

“Udupi has set an example for peace and communal harmony with people from different communities co-existing here for centuries. Though the neighbouring district of Dakshina Kannada has witnessed communal violence time and again, it has not affected Udupi. The reason for this is Udupi’s peace-loving population. But people like Pramod Muthalik are trying to disrupt peace and spark communal unrest here by blowing small issues out of proportion.

“Pejawar Swamiji who is a beacon for the entire country when it comes to fostering communal harmony, is a strong protector of Hindu religion. At the same time he has affection and respect towards other religion too. He has set an example by visiting Dalit colonies.

“The Muslim community has contributed a lot to Sri Krishna Math. We strongly condemn Muthalik for terming Muslims as cow slaughterers and thieves. Every person has right to choice of food. Muthalik should understand that no one has given him the right to decide what others should eat,” Amin said.

One news floating in the Udipi air that Abdul Azeez, secretary, state Youth Congress, Karnataka state BJP Minority Morcha Vice President and Raheem Ucchil, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike’s Ansar Ahmed and Krishna Mutt Iftaar Iftar Souharda Koota Coordinator Aarif, all came together to make an inroad to Pejawar Mutt management through this Iftaar programme.

Concerning a dispute inside the Mutt, the Muslim political forces both in Congress and BJP are trying to get a hold in the temple management through manipulating Hindu group divide.

As Karnataka is a Congress ruled state now, the ruling party sometimes puts pressure on Mutt to set ‘Secular Programmes’ according to the their ‘Secular agenda’.

The flak faced by the Pejawar seer for iftar at Udupi mutt is not just from Sri Ram Sene end. Many of regular visitors of the Mutt are expressing their displeasure for an Islamic programme inside a Hindu Temple when Muslims are openly condemn idol worship or Gauraksha.

“We respect Pejawar Swami like a God. It’s our family tradition. It is true that Lord Shiva gave a boon to Ravana to be immortal. But, Lord Ram killed Ravana finally. As Sri Ram Sene taking the part to eliminate all the anti-Hindu elements reached inside the Mutt, we will support Sena.” said Amrutheesh a final year law student and frequent visitor to the mutt with his whole family.

The show of religious harmony is always done by Hindus, never by Muslims. Did the Muslims who came to Krishna during the occasion? Where those Muslims told about Gita and the message of Krishna? If so, I can understand. Instead they used the premises as a mosque to do their prayers. Muslims do not yield even an inch. It is always the Hindus who give in. These Hindu leaders will give in for some sort of recognition or anything that will increase their ego.

Swamiji’s offer of Iftar in Udipi temple to Muslims is a generous act aimed uniting Hindu Muslims together.There is no any other political religious intention behind this incident.Sensitive issues of this nature requires broad mindedness.of Hindus..RamSena;s protest against Swamiji is not acceptable.

India have lost its Hindu beliefs. Look at those helpless judges politicians and gen. public who cannot change or demand their own religion. The Muslims are making the big shouting the Hindus courts are uselessly looking at each others face. What a shame,

First of all one has to understand we are all living on the earth which is created by the almighty god -people give different names for him for us it is krishna may be different names for others. Our dharma has taught us to live together not hatred, When pontiff are setting example to live in harmony and peace others don’t follow they just break and make useless talk.There are places in our country where people leave in harmony.Its the we the public have to be aware not listen to the useless speeches given by the politicians where in they are making money and working on the betterment of the society.stop listening to the waste and useless speech of the people who tires to break the harmony between the religions.
