Upender Pal Singh | HENB | Jaipur | Sept 9, 2017:: When a Muslim news portal Siasat Daily claims it as, “Police assaults Muslim woman, triggers violence in Jaipur+“, sources in Jaipur says it was a planned attack on police to disgrace the routine traffic checking by police near the Muslim locality of the city.
Curfew has been in four police station areas of Jaipur after violence erupted, police said. Angry Muslim mob pelted stones at the police, torched nearby vehicles and vandalized public property+.
“Curfew has been imposed till further orders in Manak Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Galta Gate and Ramganj police station areas of the city following violence in which a police station was attacked and vehicles burnt,” Commissioner of Police Sanjay Agarwal told IANS.
There were also reports of stone pelting from some of the areas by Muslim mob and police had a difficult time to control the violent mob. Tear gas was used and the district administration to maintain law and order had to impose curfew in four police station areas.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred after a policeman hit a person sitting on a motor bike with a lathi (baton) after the policeman tried to stop a bike for a routine vehicle checking in Ramganj police station area. The middle aged Muslim man tried to run away from the scene and was hit with a baton to woman co-rider.
Soon afterwards hundreds of violent Muslim mass gathered at the police station and attacked the police station. Police tried to pacify them but failed and started to pelt stones. The mob was demanding no checking in those vehicles with Muslim women rider and deployment of “No Hindu – Only Muslim” police personnel in Muslim areas, local sources said.
The Mob was raising slogans, ‘Nara e Takbeer Allah hu Akbar‘, while attacking police station and destroying public properties. Mosque microphones were used to incite the violence as reported.
Police resorted to lathicharge as violent mob burnt vehicles.
Police ordered that shots be fired in air to disperse the crowd, in which one person, identified as Mohammed Raees, was killed, said a source. But, Times Now mentioned the deceased as Adil in their newscast. Several injured in the scene.
“A petty dispute between a police constable and a motorcycle-borne couple late last night (Friday) led to clashes between the locals and the police, following which the curfew was imposed around 1 am in Ramganj area, where the violence broke out,” Jaipur Police Commissioner Sanjay Agarwal said, reported News18.
Internet services were also suspended and schools in the curfew-laden areas have been closed.
