Give Permission to J&K Hindus for Annual Sharda Peeth Yatra in POK: SSCK.

SSCK demands permission for annual Hindu pilgrimage to Sharda Peeth in PoK.

Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | Prayagraj Kumnbnagri | Feb 6, 2019::  Save Sharda Committee Kashmir (SSCK), the prime organisation to restore the dignity of Hindu Pilgrimage Sharda Peeth which was reinvented and re-established by Adi Shankaracharya in 730 AD in ancient Kashmir now falls in Pak Occupied Kashmir (POK).

Located in Shardi village, 160 kms from Muzaffarabad, the capital of POK Sharda Peeth, is revered by the Kashmiri Pandit diaspora. Access to the shrine, dedicated to the goddess of knowledge and learning, has been a longstanding demand and cherished desire of the community. It’s a fact that access to this temple will bless the Kashmiri Pandits whose lives have been shattered by Pak sponsored Jihadi militancy in Kashmir valley.

Reference of this Sharda Peeth is seen in the History dates back to 5000 yrs or more. There are competing theories of when Sharda Peeth was built. Some historians believe that it was built under the Kushan Empire (30 CE-230 CE),whereas some others hold that similarities between Sharda Peeth and the Martand Sun Temple suggest that it was built by Lalitaditya. There is an alternative school of thought suggesting that it was built not at once, but in stages.

After the inauguration of the Kartarpur corridor by Modi Govt on Nov 28, 2018, Kashmiri Pandits have demanded the reopening of Sharda Peeth temple in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Sharda Peeth temple is one of holiest religious shrines of the Kashmiri Pandits.

Now, Ravinder Pandita founder of Save Sharda Committee Kashmir (SSCK) came to Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, the worlds biggest Hindu Dharmik Congregation,  to make a awareness about the restoration of Sharda Peeth in POK and appealed various Shankaracharyas and Monk Orders, their Akhadas and the Hindu society in general to support the cause.

While talking to ANI  Pandita told, “We have come to Prayagraj in Kumbh Mela to create awareness regarding Sharda Peeth through campaign which is currently in PoK”. He further added, “The four main math at Adi Shankaracharya have sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting that the yatra should begin again. There are already two corridors made through which people commute at LoC as Uri-Muzaffarabad and Rawalkot-Punch. The only problem is that the permit is given only to meet the family, but not for pilgrimage to Sharda Peeth.”

Sharda Peeth – the highest Peeth of Adi Shankracharya lies on the banks of river Kishenganga, Madhumati & Saraswati and is about 140 kms from Muzaffarabad. The last yatra undertaken was by Kashmiri saint Swami Nand Lal Ji who came to our side of Kashmir from Sharda village in the year 1948.

Save Sharda Committee, which is a pressure group for re-opening of Sharda Pilgrimage sees the reopening of Sharda as a CBM (Confidence building Measure) between the two neighbouring countries that has not taken place since the partition. In a hand out of SSCK issued by Ravinder Pandita, it stressed the need of setting up of Sharda University, promotion of Sharda Lipi (script) and facilitating J&K Hindus for annual Sharda Peeth pilgrimage on the lines of Sikhs undertaking Nankana Sahib yatra in Lahore,
