Suraaj Singh | HENB | Jamshedpur | Sept 26, 2019:: 17 Hindu students studying in class 12 in Church School at Beldih Triangle in Jamshedpur of Jharkhand were suspended for allegedly chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram‘ in the school compound. School Principal L Peterson says they were sent on five days ‘study leave’ as their activities breached discipline and were ‘disturbing school environment’, as per report+ published in Times Now.
As per report+ in Dainik Jagran, the students were suspended on Tuesday for chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ which led to protests by the ABVP at the school. The matter came to light when some parents approached the district education officials.
Following the protests by ABVP, on Wednesday, the school authorities reportedly called up the suspended students and asked them to return to school. The suspended students are expected to resume the school from Thursday. The district education officer had asked the school to clarify its position on the matter. To this, the school replied by saying that they had not suspended any student. The school has alleged that the disciplinary action was taken against students for ‘bunking a library class’.
It has also been reported by some students of the school that some of their teachers started to greet the students with ‘Hallelujah’ in recent instead of formal good morning or good afternoon. With this uncommon greetings of ‘Hallelujah’, the Hindu students felt disturbed.
The annoyed students consulted with their parents and started responding ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in exchange of the welcome note of ‘Hallelujah’.
Afterwards, some students collectively shouted Jai Shri Ram on Tuesday to irritate a Christian teacher who insulted Lord Rama, some days before; a sources said.
“No student has been suspended. The students were bunking the library and they were asked to call their parents. This step was taken just to inform the parents about activities of their children. The board exams start soon,” the principal said in a letter.
The ABVP Jharkhand State Committee leader, Sagar Roy told HENB that “it was very much unfortunate that the School authority tried to preach Bible among the students in a hidden manner in their so called secular agenda. But, at the same time the school authority suspended the Hindu students to take their God’s name as Jai Shri Ram in a situation arose.”
The Jharkhand State ABVP is preparing greater movement, if the alleged suspension of 17 students are not withdrawn immediately.
