Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | Gangasagar | January 15, 2020:: The BJP run Uttarakhand Govt has finally reached the decision to take over more than 50 Hindu shrines and temples including Char Dham very soon without taking over a single Church or Mosque in the state however.
As per report+, Uttarakhand governor Baby Rani Maurya on Tuesday gave her assent to the Char Dham Devsthanam Management Bill 2019 and it would now pave way for the state government to take over of 50 shrines in the state, including Char Dham — Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. It is also reported that the Uttrakhand’s BJP Chief Minister is Trivender Singh Rawat, a RSS recruit, is the designer of the said bill to take over major Hindu temples and shrines in the state and he has taken the confidence of VHP leaders of the state.
Officials at the governor secretariat confirmed the development and said that the Bill has been passed on to the state government’s law department for further discussion on the date of notification before implementation.
In the board, an IAS officer will hold the post of CEO while CM will be the president and there will be other members such as MLAs, MPs and member of the Tehri royal family. Sources said that the appointments in the board and a head office in Dehradun would be made in the next few months.
The board will bring Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Yamunotri and 51 other temples in the hill state under the ambit of the state government and will also result in the dismantling of the existing temple managements such as the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee. The provisions and composition of the Bill will be like the Vaishno Devi shrine board and Tirupati Balaji shrine board.
Meanwhile, local priests and Congress MLA from Kedarnath Manoj Rawat threatened to launch a protest against the Bill and said that it is against the interests of the priests’ community. Rawat said, “The state government is ruining the century-old Hindu traditions set up by Adi Shankaracharya for Char Dham. This government is doing something which even the British couldn’t do.”
Rawat added that unlike Vaishno Devi, Char Dham has everything in place. “From rituals to appointments and tenure of priests, everything is in place in Char Dham. The takeover will mean dismantling a perfect system that is in place. Why does the government even want that?”
Badrinath priest Ashutosh Semwal said, “Our community is opposed to the new board as it will undermine the existing system.
We will soon hold a meeting of all priests to decide the next course of action.”
The reaction and warnings of the Hindu priests on taking over Hindu shrines in Uttarakhand are quite obvious.
However, state government spokesperson and BJP MLA Madan Kaushik from Haridwar said that the system of head priests, which was set up by Adi Shankaracharya, will continue as it is. “The new board will not interfere in the daily operational affairs. It will just manage donations and the money would be used to develop the shrines.”
Now, the questions arise why the BJP run Uttarakhand Govt is so resolute to take over the only Hindu Shrines and Temples of the state without touching a single Church and Mosque for taking those under govt control! What is policy of BJP on taking over Hindu temples under Govt control in fact?
The eminent Hindu think tank and senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Subramanian Swamy has been struggling to free the Hindu temples and Devaswom Boards/ Shrine Boards from Govt control for decades. Dr Swamy is even fighting in the court of law to stop the extortion and exploitation for temple offerings and donations by the Govt controlled Devaswom Boards/ Shrine Boards mainly in the South including Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam.
In this pretext, taking over more than 50 Hindu Temples and Shrines in Uttarakhand by present Govt is nothing but a clean exposure of the double standard of BJP.
Alike Congress in the earlier, the BJP is also not touching a single Church or Mosque to take those under Govt control, but venturing to get profits from the Hindu temple and shrines!! This shows an utter policy hazards of BJP on Hindu matters.
The current BJP Govt in the Uttarakhand and the Union Govt under Modi may think they are more Hindu than others and taking over Char Dham and other 51 temples in Uttarakhand will benefit the well beings & development of those; but, what will be happened when a pseudo secular, pro-Christian, pro-Muslim Congress or other non-BJP Govt will take the charge?
Taking over the Sanatani Shrines and Temples under Govt control, without taking over Mosques and Churches in the same way is a serious discrimination to Hindus in India.
The current hire and fire policy on Hindu matters as adopted by BJP these days must be re-examined and BJP must not take over Char Dham other temple-shrines in Uttarakhand; rather Govt in Uttarakhand may appoint Govt Overseers and Coordinating Officials under the guidance of Senior Shankaracharyas to help and strengthen existing Temple committees there for effective management and development of Char Dham and other temples/shrins in Uttarakhand.
