Sumant Gavare | HENB | Mumbai | January 23, 2020:: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has nabbed a young man of 34 yrs who was wanted in the Nalasopara arms haul case 2018 and for plotting the attack at the Sunburn music Festival of 2017.
Maharashtra Police arrested Pratap Judishtar Hajra alias Pratap Hajra, a resident of West Bengal, from South 24 Parganas district with assistance from West Bengal Police. Hazara is believed to be connected with different Hindutvawadi organizations viz. Hindu Samhati, Bhavani Sena, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and AntarRashtriya Hindu Parishad based in West Bengal, Maharashtra and Gujarat .
The ATS received a tip-off about his whereabouts and arrested him from Nainapur under Usthi PS in the West Bengal district earlier this week, an official said.
Hajra is allegedly involved in plotting a terror attack at the Pune Sunburn Festival in December 2017; it, however, did not materialise. Hajra was also wanted in the Nalasopara explosives seizure case of 2018.
Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) personnel have arrested Pratap to allegedly impart training to the members of a right-wing group for making country made bombs.
The 6,842-page chargesheet has been filed under relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act, ANI reported.
The group had purportedly conspired to use ammunition including country-made pistols and bombs to target those who speak or write against “the so called Hindu Dharma”. The chargesheet said a significant amount of ammunition had been seized from the accused in several raids.
He was produced before a Mumbai court on Thursday and sent to ATS custody till January 30. The Maharashtra ATS has so far arrested 12 persons in connection with the case. Maharashtra Police always tried to entangle Sanatan Sanstha in all such cases, but the organisation distanced all the charges whatsoever framed on mere suspicion grounds.
Earlier, 12 others were arrested in the same case from different places from Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Hajra was a popular youth leader in his locality famous for social welfare activities and Sanatan Hindu Dharma propagation.
