Upasana Das | HENB | Kolkata | May 2, 2022:: Of all the 51 Shakti Peeths in the Indian Subcontinent, only one is not accessible at all to the Hindu Devotee – Shrinkhala Devi – located in Pandua, Hooghly, West Bengal – which was looted, destroyed, and occupied by non-Hindu forces (at present there is an Islamic minar at the structure, and administered by ASI).
The other 14 Shakti Peeths (out of the total 51 in ‘Akhand Bharat’) in Bengal are open for the Hindu faithful to pray, meditate, worship, & celebrate. Maa Shrinkhala Devi Shaktipeeth is the only exception.
The Sanyukta Hindu Front (United Hindu Front), SHF on behalf of various devotee groups of Shakti peethas & organizers has started the practice of worshiping this ‘formless’ Mother Kali in the shape of ‘Shrinkhala Mata’ across Bengal and Globe among the Hindu population.
On 30.05.2022 (Amavasya), Sanyukta Hindu Front started Shrinkhala Mata Puja in Kolkata at Kali Mandir, near Shovabazar Ferry Ghat.
Kamal Maitra, the convenor of North 24 Pgs of SHF performed the puja and sought the blessings and power of Devi Mata to rescue the Shrinkhala Devi Temple from the clutch of utter humiliation and oblivion.
Shankar Mondal, President SHF addressed the gathering of the occasion and urged the people of Bengal to be united to restore the pride and significance of the Shrinkhala Devi temple as an important shrine of Shakti Peeth chain in Bengal.
Among other dignitaries, Shyamanjan Sur, Working President SHF, Santi Priya Mondal, Vice President SHF and Pritam Gupta, Tresurer, SHF were also present in the Mother Shrinkhala Devi Puja Programme.
The organisers have also filed RTI applications to ASI to get the proper information about Mata Shrinkhala Devi Temple at Pandua, WB.
The organisers have proposed a small puja every new moon day (Amavasya) starting from May 30, 2022 and onwards in all Hindu homes or offices and to email the reports and pics of the pujas at sanjukta.hindufront@gmail.com for uploading those pics in popular sites on a continuous basis. The SHF is determined to popularize this form of Mother Kali (Shrinkhala Devi), among millions, and then eventually to demand that the temple be restored to the Hindus.
The Sanyukta Hindu Front with other Hindu forntal organizations has also revived the 700 years old Khumbha Mela in this year in Triveni Sangam, West Bengal .
About Shrinkala Devi Temple
Shrinkhala Devi Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Goddess Sati located in Pandua Town in Hooghly District in West Bengal, India. There is no Temple at present but only remains of the Temple can be seen near the Minar of Bari Masjid at Pandua. This temple is considered as one of Shakti Peethas in Indian Subcontinent. Being one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of Hindu Mythology, this temple is one of the holiest sites for devotees of the Shakti sect of Hinduism.
Due to humiliation of her husband Lord Shiva by her father Daksha in a fire ritual (Daksha Yajna) goddess Sati ended her life. Out of that grief and sorrow, Lord Shiva carried Sati’s body, reminiscing about their moments as a couple, and roamed around the universe with it. In order to neutralize Shiva’s wrath and to save this universe, Lord Vishnu had cut Sati’s body into 51 body parts, using his Sudarshana Chakra, which fell on Earth to become sacred sites where all the people can pay homage to the Goddess. To complete this massively long task, Lord Shiva took the form of Bhairava in each Shakti Peeth.
It is believed that Sati’s Stomach fell in the site which was worshiped as Shrinkhala Devi temple. This place is known under 51 Shakthi Peethas and also in 18 Maha Shakti Peethas. Rishyshringa Maharshi worshiped Shrinkhala Mata here in Adinath Khestra in Ganga Sagar region (Gangatic areas of South Bengal) and got the complete blessings of her for attaining the utmost revelation.
Though Shrinkhala devi was supposed to be in ‘Bhavatārini Peetham’ of West Bengal, Hoogly district, but as such, there is no temple in Pandua (Pradmunyee) except the ruins of the old temple. The old Hindu temple was destroyed by Zafar Khan Gazi (a general of the Delhi Sultanate ruler Alauddin Khalji in his tenure 1296-1299) and converted into a Mosque upon the temple ruins. Now, the site is maintained by Archeological Survey of India.
Some people consider that Shrinkhala Mata is present near Sringeri hill areas of Karnataka, brought by Rishyashringa maharshi, on the order of Goddess. Some people consider that the temple is in Chotilla, Gujarat. But, most of the people in Shakti sect believe the original Shrinkhala Devi Temple was situated at Pandua in Hoogly of West Bengal.
Festivals
Every year during Magha Masa (around February), 30 days Mela Taala festival is celebrated in the premises of the minar.
