Howrah in communal tension; Police clash with protesters! Internet service closed in the district till Monday.

Upasana Das | HENB | Kolkata | June 10, 2022:: Controversial remarks by BJP leader Nupur Sharma about Prophet Mohammad created a communal situation in West Bengal. Fanatic Muslim mob in Howrah clashed  with police. The administration also took strict steps to control the situation. Internet service will be closed across the district till Monday.

On Thursday, a section of local residents blocked the road for a long time across the Howrah dome. Demonstrations continued with the burning of towers in the streets. The picture has not changed even today.

It is alleged that the protesters fought with the police in the Banitabala checkpost in Uluberia. The protesters vandalized and set fire to several vehicles, including a police vehicle, on National Highway No. 8. The sub-divisional magistrate’s office and the police kiosk were also left out.

The situation vitiated as the roads were blocked for a long time in Ankurhati area of ​​Domjur on Thursday, due to which a lot of cars got stuck on the national highway. The blockade began at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Protesters set fire to tires and blocked National Highway 116. Due to this ordinary people became victims of misery.

After that incident, there was a fiery situation in different areas of Howrah on Friday as well. The Howrah-Kharagpur branch was closed for a long time due to the railway blockade at Chengail. It is alleged that the BJP’s rural office in Uluberia Mansatala was vandalized and set on fire. It is also alleged that the houses of BJP workers were vandalized and looted. The protesters blockaded Panchla and rampaged and looted Hindu households near Netaji club, as reported.

It is also reported that trains were blocked at Santragachhi  and Dasnagar, causing train services to stop at Howrah-Kharagpur branch. 4 long distance trains have been canceled due to rail blockade. Many people have to suffer extreme hardships due to the blockade in the intense heat.

In many places of West Bengal, the Muslim mob took the street after offering Friday Namaz and started road blockade, arson, rampage, looting of Hindu shops, households in protest of suspended BJP spokesperson’s remarks of Prophet Muhammad.

Daily passengers, patients in ambulances, passengers with families and children witnessed a horrible situation created by the fanatic Muslim mob in many places in WB. Apart from Howrah,  public life was disturbed by the communal people in many places in  South 24 Pgs, Nadia, Burdwan, Murshibad and Malda with a demand to execute Nupur Sharma in a Talibani way publicly.

State BJP President and Leader of Opposition in WB Shuvendu Adhikary both condemned the state govt for its failure to handle the communal situation and alerted the Mamata Banrejee Govt to seek help from the Military to control the situation if required.
