Suspected extremists raped and killed a female priest of Hindu temple in Islamic Bangladesh.

Bangladesh: A female priest of a Hindu temple is allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Gopalganj by suspected Jihadists. 

Susmita Basak | HENB | Dhaka | March 7, 2024:: Again a horrifying news of attack on the Hindu minorities of Bangladesh reached the media. This time, a shocking news of the alleged gang-rape and murder of a woman priest of a Hindu temple has been coming from the Gopalganj district of Bangladesh. The Jihadi rackets involved in attacking temples to wipe out the Hindu symbols in Islamic Bangladesh are suspected by the local people.

The Priest (Pujari) has been identified as Hasilata Biswas alias  Hasi (70). She was the Pujari of the Vishwabandhu Sevashram Mandir. She used to live in a room inside the Sevashram Mandir. The Sevashram Mandir is situated in the Malibata village under the Durgapur Union of the Gopalganj district.

On the morning of the 3rd of March, when local devotees visited the temple, they found that the door of her room was broken. They saw that Hasi had been lying on the floor.

A devotee said, “She was lying on the floor. Her hands were tied. Clothes were stuffed in her mouth. There were drops of blood on the floor. It is clear that she faced brutal sexual torture before murder.”

Two donation boxes of the Sevashram Mandir were found broken and all the donations and gold ornaments of the deities were taken away.

A case has already been filed in the Police Station. An investigating officer said that other agencies are working on the case. Very soon, the perpetrators will be arrested. But, no such police action has not been received till this reporting.

Advocate Rana Dasgupta, the General Secretary of Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, condemned the heinous ‘rape and murder’ of  Hasilata Biswas who was engaged as a female priest in Vishwabandhu Sevashram Mandir in Malibata. Dasgupta visited the temple and consoled the bereaved family of Hasilata.

Hindu minorities, Hindu temples, temple lands and valuables and the  temple priests in Islamic Bangladesh are subject to Jihadi attacks again and again.
