Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | New Delhi | May 11, 2026:: The Hindu Shree Foundation has urged the Union Government to grant “Special Heritage” status to Sanskrit, arguing that the ancient language is an inseparable part of India’s civilisational identity and requires stronger institutional protection and promotion.
The demand was raised during the National Executive Committee meeting of the organisation held in the national capital on Sunday, where members discussed a broader roadmap for cultural revival, organisational expansion, and preparations for the upcoming ‘Sanskrit Kumbh Mela’.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kaushal Kant Mishra, Founder and Convener of the Hindu Shree Foundation, said Sanskrit should be accorded a “Sepcial Heritage” status above that of a “Minority Language” in order to preserve and revive India’s ancient knowledge systems.

“Sanskrit is the bedrock of India’s traditional knowledge and the mother of many world languages. But it has gradually lost its significance over the years. Special Heritage recognition is essential for its institutional support, promotion, and preservation,” Mishra said.
He stressed that Sanskrit is not confined only to religious or philosophical literature, but represents a vast repository of ancient Indian knowledge spanning diverse disciplines such as Ayurveda, science, yoga, astronomy, astrology, arts, and crafts. According to him, these subjects continue to hold contemporary relevance and can contribute significantly to modern education and research.
The Foundation argued that many original Sanskrit manuscripts and classical texts remain underexplored due to declining familiarity with the language, making its revival crucial for rediscovering India’s intellectual and cultural heritage.
Apart from the Sanskrit issue, the meeting also focused on strengthening the organisational structure of the Hindu Shree Foundation and enhancing its outreach activities. Discussions were held on the organisation’s proposed participation in the upcoming Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, one of the largest Hindu religious congregations in the world.
Former judge Shiv Kirti Singh suggested that promotional and ideological material of the organisation should be prepared and circulated in Hindi, English, and Sanskrit to widen public engagement and awareness about the Foundation’s activities.
Former bureaucrat and HSF office bearer Chitranjan Khaitan proposed setting up special Hindu Shree Foundation camps at the forthcoming Kumbh Mela to connect directly with devotees and social organisations participating in the event.
The organisation also announced steps toward digital expansion and coordination. Senior member Jitin Jain will oversee the creation of the Foundation’s Google page and digital registration infrastructure through Google Forms to streamline membership and organisational coordination. HSF President Shiv Chaudhary is expected to constitute a four-member committee for the initiative.
Meanwhile, organisational strategist Alok Mohan Nayak recommended that active workers across different regions should initially be integrated into the national body through programmes and campaigns before being inducted into specialised verticals after the formation of State-level executive committees.
The resolutions adopted during the meeting reflected the Foundation’s broader emphasis on cultural preservation, Sanskrit revival, and consolidation of Hindu social and religious networks across the country.
