RSS in the North East

“Indigenous faith is the mother of Hindutva,” says Rajesh Deshkar, Seva Pramukh of RSS Assam Kshetra.

Upen Singh Tamang | HENB | Imphal East, Manipur | May 25, 2026:: Rajesh Deshkar, Seva Pramukh of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Assam Khetra, on Sunday asserted that indigenous faith traditions are the “mother of Hindutva” and the source of “Bharat consciousness,” while addressing the valedictory function of a 15-day Sangh Shiksha Varg (Samanaya) in Manipur.

The concluding programme of the RSS training camp was held at the Rajashree Bhagyachandra Skill Development Center in Haraorou, Imphal East district, where 50 participants from different parts of the state completed the residential training programme.

“North East Preserves Bharatiya Consciousness”

Addressing the gathering, Deshkar said the North Eastern region continues to preserve and strengthen “Bharatiya values and consciousness,” adding that the region occupies a central place in India’s civilisational identity.

“The people and traditions of the North East occupy a central place in Bharat’s civilisational identity,” he said.

He further remarked that without the North Eastern region, “the Mahabharata remains incomplete,” underscoring what he described as the historical and cultural significance of the region in the broader narrative of Bharat. Deshkar also spoke about the gradual growth of the RSS in the North East region over the last three decades.

References to Historical Figures

During his speech, Deshkar referred to several historical personalities from the North East and Manipur, describing them as symbols of “Bharat consciousness.”

Among those mentioned were Rani Gaidinliu, Maharaja Kulachandra, Maharaja Bhagyachandra, Maharaja Tikendrajit and Major Bob Khathing.

He said these figures represented the spirit of national consciousness and cultural continuity.

RSS Vision and National Reconstruction

Deshkar also spoke about the vision of RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, stating that Hedgewar envisioned a united Bharat and described India as a Hindu nation.

According to him, since its establishment in 1925, the RSS has continued its “tapasya” and dedicated service towards national reconstruction.

“The purpose of Bharat is to show the right path to the world,” he said.

Drawing a distinction between “swadhinnata” and “swatantrata,” Deshkar said India attained political freedom or “swadhinnata” in 1947, but argued that “swatantrata” refers to a governance and social system rooted in the nation’s inherent civilisational character.

Maharaja Bhagyachandra Remembered

Deshkar described Maharaja Bhagyachandra as an enduring example of Bharatiya cultural and spiritual values. He said the RSS remembers and honours the Manipuri monarch every morning through the recitation of the “Ekatmata Stotram.”

Emphasising national unity, he said Bharat is “one people and one nation” and carries a responsibility to guide the world through its cultural and spiritual traditions.

Focus on Social Harmony and Swadeshi

Outlining what he called key pillars for strengthening Bharatiya consciousness, Deshkar highlighted the importance of:

  • Parivar Prabodhan (family awakening)
  • Samajik Samarasata (social harmony and equality)
  • Environmental protection
  • Swadeshi or “vocal for local”
  • Civic responsibility and duties

He said these principles are essential for social cohesion and national development.

Former Indian Football Captain Attends as Chief Guest

The valedictory function was also attended by former Indian football team captain Potsangbam Renedy Singh as chief guest.

Renedy Singh praised the discipline, dedication and commitment of RSS karyakartas towards nation-building and appreciated the endurance and sincerity displayed by the shiksharthis during the intensive 15-day training programme.

A total of 50 shiksharthis (trainees) from various parts of Manipur successfully completed the Sangh Shiksha Varg.
