One of the central demands concerns the lighting of the lamp at the Deepa Thoon (Lamp Pillar) in Thiruparankundram. HMK has urged the state government to implement a court order related to the issue and ensure that the lamp is lit in accordance with the verdict.
The party criticized recent remarks attributed to Minister Nirmal Kumar regarding the continuation of the existing status quo and argued that the religious sentiments of Lord Murugan devotees should be respected.
HMK also raised concerns regarding a felicitation event involving Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakaran and Minister Vanniyarasu. The party alleged that the event encouraged religious conversions and objected to the minister’s reported support for extending reservation and welfare benefits to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe individuals after conversion to another religion.
The party claimed that such a position contradicts the principles of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and accused the minister of promoting religious division. HMK additionally criticized Vanniyarasu for his reported efforts concerning the release of convicts in the Coimbatore serial blast case.
The party strongly opposed remarks attributed to the School Education Minister regarding restrictions on Hindu religious symbols in educational institutions.
According to HMK, symbols such as Thiruneeru (sacred ash), Kumkum, Thiruman, Rudraksha beads, and consecrated wrist threads should not be prohibited if students from other faiths are allowed to wear religious attire and symbols associated with their respective religions.
HMK also condemned comments allegedly made by poet Vairamuthu concerning a depiction of Thiruvalluvar displayed during a Vaikasi Anusham observance at Raj Bhavan.
The party stated that the depiction showed Thiruvalluvar wearing Thiruneeru and Rudraksha and argued that remarks critical of these symbols were offensive to devotees of Lord Shiva. HMK demanded an apology from the poet.
The organization expressed concern over alleged death threats made on social media against Surya, HMK’s youth wing leader, who had reportedly secured a court order restricting public slaughter of cows.
HMK also criticized the Coimbatore City Police for allegedly issuing an order directing him to leave the district.
The party called for reforms in the appointment of trustees to temples administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department.
HMK stated that priority should be given to spiritual leaders and devotees and argued that politicians, atheists, and individuals belonging to other faiths should not be appointed as trustees of Hindu temples.
Another major issue raised by the party concerns reservation policies.
HMK opposed any proposal to increase the existing reservation allocation available to Muslims and Christians within the Backward Classes category from 3.5 percent to 5 percent. The party argued that public policy should not divide citizens on the basis of religion.
The party demanded that Navodaya schools and PM SHRI schools be permitted to function in Tamil Nadu.
It also called for educational scholarship schemes that would benefit all students irrespective of religion, arguing that financial assistance should be distributed on a broader and more inclusive basis.
HMK expressed concern over what it described as deteriorating law and order conditions in the state.
The party cited incidents involving crimes against women, sexual offences, murders, robberies, and the spread of narcotics, including ganja. It urged the Chief Minister to take stronger measures to improve public safety and control crime despite the establishment of specialized police units.
Finally, HMK called on the government to implement several welfare commitments, including monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 for women.
The party also urged the administration to fulfill election promises such as the provision of six LPG cylinders annually, waiver of agricultural crop loans, and implementation of the Thaaimaman Seer welfare scheme.
The Hindu Makkal Katchi stated that demonstrations will be organized simultaneously across Tamil Nadu’s district headquarters on June 21. Party leaders said the protests are intended to draw the government’s attention to what they describe as pressing issues affecting Hindu religious rights, social welfare, education, public safety, and governance.
The Tamil Nadu government has not yet issued an official response to the demands outlined by the party.
