The Practical Hindu Way of Battle for Sanskriti is to Battle for Sanskrit.

The Battle for Sanskrit: Is Sanskrit Political or Sacred, Oppressive or Liberating, Dead or Alive? This Battle for Sanskrit is meant for the Battle for Sanskriti.

Battle of SanskritHENB | New Delhi | January 30, 2016:: Outstanding and thought-provoking, the recent book named “THE BATTLE FOR SANSKRIT” (The Battle for Sanskrit: Is Sanskrit Political or Sacred, Oppressive or Liberating, Dead or Alive?) by Shri. Rajiv Malhotra, proposes a set of debates for the intellectual kurukshetra (battlefield) pertaining to the social, political, historical and contemporary dimensions of Indian Sanskrit. It is intended as a wake-up call to the traditionalists and seeks to inspire a home team to pursue such debates.

The book explores the battle between Western and traditional approaches to Sanskrit and Sanskrit (civilization). It exposes the dominant Western scholarship, in particular its subversive allegation that the Sanskrit heritage has been a political weapon for social oppression. Without adequate critical inquiry, Indian English-language elites have internalized such lopsided ideas and enshrined them in various mainstream institutions.

There is a new awakening that is challenging the ongoing westernization of the discourse about India. The Battle for Sanskrit seeks to alert traditional scholars of Sanskrit and Sanskriti ‑ Indian civilization ‑ concerning an important school of thought that has its base in the US and that has started to dominate the discourse on the cultural, social and political aspects of India. This academic field is called Indology or Sanskrit studies. From their analysis of Sanskrit texts, the scholars of this field are intervening in modern Indian society with the explicitly stated purpose of removing ‘poisons’ allegedly built into these texts. They hold that many Sanskrit texts are socially oppressive and serve as a political weapon of the ruling elite; that the sacred aspects need to be refuted or side lined; and that Sanskrit has long been dead. The traditional Indian experts would outright reject or at least question these positions.

Above: Shri. Rajiv Malhotra is speaking on his book in a prog organised by Sanskrit Bharati.

The start of Rajiv Malhotra’s feisty exploration of where the new thrust in Western Indology goes wrong, and his defence of what he considers the traditional, Indian approach, began with a project related to the Sringeri Sharada Peetham, one of the most sacred institutions for Hindus. There was, as he saw it, a serious risk of distortion of the teachings of the peetham, and of Sanatana Dharma more broadly.

Whichever side of the fence one may be, The Battle for Sanskrit, offers a spirited debate marshalling new insights and research. It is a valuable addition to an important subject, and in a larger context, on two ways of looking. Is each view exclusive of the other, or can there be a bridge between them? The reader can judge for himself.

Shri Malhotra attended a programme to talk on his book, The Battle for Sanskrit as organised by Sanskrit Bharati in Bangalore on January 17, 2016. The Sanskrit Bharati also organized the book launch programme in Mumbai on Jan 28.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union has arranged a Panel Discussion on Feb 1st at JNU at 2 pm on the seminal new book on Indology “The Battle for Sanskrit”.

Invitation JNU Battle 4 Sanskrit

The book is available in renowned book stalls in the Indian metropolis and online through amazon.

In his lecture and interaction afterward, Shri Malhotra urged a big support for his battle for Sanskrit from the Indian base to expose the  culpable efforts of the westerners to misuse and misinterpret Sanskrit language and its rich treasures of literature,  philosophy, science, medicines and many things required for our way of life.

I feel pleasure that the Vedics are fortunate that Rajiv ji is providing this unique seva / awakening to them thru his research and books. My prayers or wishes are these:
    – Dharma glaani among the Vedics must go away. As it goes away gradually, problems such as corruption, dowry, self identity, love for Bhaarat desh and sanskriti will go away. All must understand dharma as it is described in Bhagavad Gita and strive to live per it.
    – The Vedics need to understand very clearly that Vedic is universal religion for mankind. Kshatriya dharma is integral part of it, and it should never be given up or looked down. Any Vedic of any varNa can fight against adharmis and anti-Vedics in his/her own way.
    – For popularizing Sanskrit the Gov’t and big businesses / companies need to give preference for hiring who know Sanskrit well. This will cause demand for Sanskrit studies and schools will teach Sanskrit. Ad.s in paper and media should be in Sanskrit. Movies and shows should use Sanskrit words, not English, within Indian languages scripts. Indian companies should use Indian voice in ad.s, not Western voice. When I see on TV any Bhaaratiya product advertised in a non-Bhaaratiya voice, I feel that the company has no respect or pride for its own language or people.
    – Bhaaratiyas need to make Bhaarat a Vedic State, not secular. This is because several mighty anti-Vedic forces in Bhaarat are actively working to destroy the Vedic dharma and culture, and we must stop them. It is only possible and easy when Bhaart is made a Vedic State where any ant-Vedic and intolerant religion or ideology will be illegal.
    – Western culture is mostly Christian, and Christian God is a jealous god. Consequently, the culture is always jealous of anyone who is more successful than them. While the Vedics think “whatever is good is ours to adopt”, the Westerns think “only ours is good, and the rest of the world need to accept it.” The culture is not willing to be dominated by craves to dominate on others. In contrast, the Vedics want to dominate themselves (control themselves to advance spiritually) only, and have no desire to dominate over non-Vedics.
    – We need 2-5 million intellectual kshatriyas in Bhaarat. The first great intellectual kshatriya against the West was A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad, the Vaishnav aacharya who spread and planted Krishna Bhakti all over the world. His goal was to help the Westerners to advance spiritually.
    – Like Islam Xianity (my shorthand for Christianity) aims to convert and dominate the whole world. Both are organized religions like military. 10% of the Christians’ income goes for the church. This funding they use to spread Xianity all over the world in any manner. — For Vedic we no not have such system. However, we have a lot of income coming and saved in our temples. We should stop the Gov’t conrol on our temples. At the same time, temples need to use the funds for advancing dharma and sanskriti. Pro-Vedic dharma leaders need to meet each temple’s governing bodies to influence them for using/committing the funds for dharma and desh seva. Additionally, Pro-Vedics can open their own ideal temples where the temple income will be used for dharma and desh and sanskriti seva which needs good leaders, income, programs, and execution of the program.
    – The Vedics need to stop inter-saampradaayik debates (internal fighting) because they need to unite to solve common national level enemies and problems.
    – No varna need to convert any other varna because Krishna in Gita has said:
    स्वे स्वे कर्मणि अभिरथः संसिद्धि लभते नरः॥
    – No varNa should exploit, mistreat or look down at any other verNa because to do so is sin. It disunites.

    jai sri krishna!
