Kalosona Roy | HENB | Kolkata | September 8, 2016:: The infamous ‘Barbadi’ leader Kanhaiya Kumar of All India Students Federation (AISF) faced a huge protest demonstration staged by the BJP workers here as he was entering the venue of a mass convention where he was one of the speakers on Thursday.
The police said soon after Kumar’s car reached Mahajati Sadan, the venue of the convention jointly organised by AISF and AIYF (All India Youth Federation), the BJP workers started throwing rotten eggs and tomatoes at him while shouting slogans. They condemned Kumar for his “anti-national” activities related to separation of Kashmir from India. The protesters also condemned his move to attack Hindu organisation tagging the so called ‘dalit atrocity’ issues in India. The Kolkata protesters also displayed black flags and flung shoes at Kanhaiya Kumar.
Amidst tight security, Kumar, who is also the president of JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU), was somehow taken inside the Mahajati Sadan auditorium in north Kolkata. But, nobody could a huge protest by BJP supporters with slogans like, ‘Desh ki barbadi nehi, Kanhaiya teri barbadi hogi‘ (The country will not be destroyed, but Kanhiya you have to face destruction), ‘Kashmir ki Azadi nehi milega, Kanhaiya tu Pakistan bhagega‘ (Kashmir will not get freedom, but Kanhiya has to flee to Pakistan) etc.
The incident brought traffic to a halt on the busy Central Avenue for an hour. Ten demonstrators, including three women, were arrested, the police said. Speaking at the convention, Kumar flayed the Centre’s intolerance, referring to Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula’s death in Hyderabad. Rohit committed a suicide under a ‘leftist’ frustration.
He said, “Those who are responsible for the death of Vemula have nothing to defend themselves. The government should protect its people as human beings and not on the basis of their religion, caste or creed.” But, he could not spoke anything about the Jissa murder in Kerala, a communist influenced state in India. Jissa was a dalit girl and student of law in a college who was brutally raped and murdered in May 2016 by a Muslim labour from Assam.
The programme was held amid tight security and considerable police deployment. One of the AISF organisers claimed that the BJP staged the demonstration “out of fear”. But, actually the entire leftist student took a refuge under police seeing some roaring Royal Bengal Tigers in Kolkata roads.
Seeing this upsurge of Nationalist protest against subversive forces and ultra leftists in Kolkata, Kanhaiya said, “Left leaders need to hit the road to get people’s support“.
‘Hindus in Kolkata is not tolerating Kanhaiya Kumar and companies anyway and will tolerate them any manner’, said a protester to HENB.
