Buddhist CJ of MP HC demolished Hindu Temple in his Official Residence. Fast Restoration Demanded.

Ex-CBI director demands ‘Immediate order of reconstruction’ for the demolished Hanuman temple in Chief Justice’s residence in Madhya Pradesh.

M Nageswara Rao

Upendra Bharti | HENB | Bhopal | Dec 31, 2024 :: M. Nageswara Rao, former interim director of the CBI, has called for the reconstruction of the Hanuman Temple at Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait’s official residence. This comes after allegations that Chief Justice Kait had the temple demolished to rejoice his ‘Buddhist’ faith.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court Bar Association has also written to the Chief Justice of India, seeking an inquiry into the demolition and action against those responsible. The association has emphasized the temple’s historical significance, stating that many former Chief Justices, including Justices SA Bobde, AM Khanwilkar, and Hemant Gupta, used to worship there.

The controversy has sparked concerns about religious tolerance and the protection of cultural heritage sites. Chief Justice Kait’s decision to demolish the temple has been questioned, with some suggesting that it may have been motivated by his personal beliefs.

Rao also urged the state government to recover the cost from the culprit concerned. His take came days after an ancient Hanuman temple in the compound of Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice’s official residence was allegedly demolished.

The MP High Court Bar Association lodged a complaint with the Chief Justice of India and Supreme Court seeking a probe into the same. Taking his X handle, Rao further said that the MP High Court Bar Association shall pursue the matter vigorously till its logical end, including the reconstruction of the demolished temple.

“Secondly, it is hoped that the Hon’ble CJI and SC takes the matter seriously and initiates stringent action against the culprit whosoever he may be,” the former CBI interim director wrote in his X post.

According to Rao, the act of Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait was not an isolated incident, but rather a symptom of a larger issue of Buddhist intolerance against Hindus.

Rao further claimed that the British had seized large tracts of temple land for secular purposes or leased them to Christian missionaries, citing Loyola College as an example, which was built on 200 acres of land belonging to the Kapaleeshwar temple. He suggested that the Jabalpur High Court, being of British vintage, may have been built on land originally belonging to an ancient Hanuman Temple, and demanded verification of old land records and excavation of the area by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to uncover the truth.

Rao’s allegations have sparked outrage, with some from the ‘selective secular groups’ accusing him of promoting a divisive agenda. However, others from ‘Hindutva minded people’ have come out in support of his demands for an investigation into the alleged demolition of the temple.
