Illegal Muslim occupation of a Hindu Shrine named as Shri Param Hans Ki Mehaj, where a Hindu pontiff died in 1919 and was buried in the shrine.
About 75 Muslim Ulema attended a meeting to issue fatwa against the reconstruction of the Hindu shrine.
Three-judges bench of Pakistan Supreme Court asks Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Government to reconstruct Hindu shrine.
Hindu Shrines in Pakistans under severe fundamental threats
H Malik | The Express Tribune | Islamabad | March 12, 2015: The top court has directed the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government to take effective steps for reconstruction and preservation of a Hindu shrine illegally occupied by a cleric in the southern Karak district.
On Wednesday, when a three-judge bench – headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk – took up the matter related to non-implementation of the apex court’s June 19, 2014 judgment, K-P’s Additional Advocate General Waqar Ahmad Khan submitted a report before the bench.
The report states that in compliance with the court order, a meeting of Ulema hailing from Karak was convened on February 15 under the chairmanship of Maulana Sharif at BD Shah Tehsil.
About 75 Ulema attended the meeting which decided against the reconstruction of the Hindu shrine “due to the current law and order situation in the province”, Karak’s deputy commissioner stated in the report. It further says that an Ulema committee will meet JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and inform him about ‘resentment of Muslims’ to the reconstruction of the shrine. However, it does not say when the meeting will take place.
“It is suggested that a meeting of all concerned be convened to evolve a strategy to deal with any eventuality that might result from implementation of the court judgment,” the report states.
The Supreme Court bench, however, expressed reservations over the K- P government’s move of involving the Ulema in the matter. Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk observed that it was not a rational decision to involve the Ulema – instead local people should have been taken into confidence.
Available pic showing the desecration of Shri Param Hans Ki Mehaj, (Karak Dist, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan). Devotees and a Police are seen in Pic.
Dr Ramesh Kumar, the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC) who brought up the issue in the top court, told the bench that he had met Kohat’s commissioner and Maulana Sharif to discuss the matter. Maulana Sharif admitted that the land belonged to the Hindu temple but still they would not return it to the community, Dr Ramesh said, claiming that the local people have no objection to the reconstruction of the shrine.
The bench observed that involvement of the Ulema in this matter meant that the provincial government was not taking any step for the reconstruction of the shrine. The bench sought a fresh report on the matter and adjourned the hearing for Thursday (today).
On June 7, 2014, K-P’s Advocate General Latif Yousufzai had submitted a report in the Supreme Court on behalf of Karak’s deputy commissioner explaining how and why the shrine was occupied. The report stated that a Hindu pontiff, named Shri Param Hans Ki Mehaj, died in 1919 and was buried in the shrine. His followers often visited the shrine after his death and the practice continued till 1997.
“Some locals destroyed the shrine, and the issue came to light when some Hindu followers of Shri Param tried to restore an old path leading to the shrine, which is now occupied by a local cleric, Mufti Iftikharuddin.” Hindu leaders from Sindh paid Rs 375,000 to the mufti as cost of the land, but he has not vacated the land since 1997.

Pakistan mourns on the sad demise of Rana Bhagwandas, the first Hindu chief justice of Pakistan.
HENB | Karachi | Feb 23, 2015:: Former Supreme Court judge Justice (retired) and Human Rights Defender Rana Bhagwandas died after suffering a cardiac arrest in Karachi on Monday morning , Radio Pakistan reported.
He was the first Hindu and the second non-Muslim head of the supreme court of Pakistan.
The 72-year-old former judge was under treatment for a heart ailment at a private hospital at the time of his passing.
Rana Bhagwandas was born on December 20, 1942 in a Hindu Sindhi Rajput family in Naseerabad, Larkana District (now Qambar Shahdadkot District) in Sindh. He studied law and received a Masters degree in Islamic Studies and was considered an expert on constitutional law.
Bhagwandas also worked as the Chairman of Federal Public Service Commission of Pakistan. He headed the interview panel for the selection of the Federal Civil Servants 2009.
In a cabinet meeting that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was presiding over, he appreciated the services of Rana Bhagwandas for rule of law in the country. PM Nawaz said that the former justice was a man of principles who had firm faith in democracy and the rule of law.
The meeting also observed a one minute silence to condole the death.
He was a practising advocate for about two years before being appointed as a judge in July 1967. He was made a judge of the Sindh High Court in June 1994.
He had been a supreme court judge since February 2000.
In 2002, the Sindh High Court had dismissed a challenge to his appointment to the higher judiciary on the grounds that he was a non-Muslim.
Bhagwandas became the acting CJP during the 2007 judicial crisis in Pakistan and also briefly became the acting chief justice of Pakistan when the incumbent CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry went on foreign tours in 2005 and 2006.
He also worked as the chairman of Federal Public Service Commission of Pakistan. He headed the interview panel for the selection of Pakistan’s Federal Civil Servants 2009.
Alongwith Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, President Mamnoon Hussain, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan issued condolence messages expressing grief and sorrow over the demise of Rana Bhagwandas.
Former president Asif Ali Zardari expressed profound grief over the death and paid a tribute to the late judge. In a condolence message he said “A jurist of impeccable integrity Baghwandas was a noble soul and an inspiring humanist who radiated hope. Leading by personal example he silently illumined the path and served as a role model for many. At a time when excellence seems receding people like Bhagwandas will be sorely missed.”
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain also expressed sorrow over the demise of the judge. In a statement the MQM chief praised Bhagwandas’ contribution to the judicial system.
Many, including Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto, also condoled the death by taking to Twitter and expressed their sympathies.
Late Rana Bhagwandas was a devout Hindu and an ardent patron and life member of Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC). PHC members were greatly shocked to hear the news of sad demise of Rana and rushed to the hospital. The PHC members also took part in the funeral of Rana. In their message PHC conveyed that, “It’s a great loss to everybody in Pakistan. Justice (R) Rana Bhagwandas was a great person and personality of Sindh. He passed away but he will remain in the hearts of people for ever. He was a great Jurist and humble person. He was a poet of great repute and composed ‘Naatia’ poetry. He always possessed the justice based on Human Rights”.
Friends of many like one Advocate Amarnath [see the video below], Rana Bhagwandas always wanted to restore the rights of minorities at per the majority, which have been remained an existential crisis for the Hindu minorities in Pakistan.

311 children die in Pakistan’s Hindu majority district in 11 months.
PTI | Islamabad | 15 Dec 2014:: More than 300 children aged under five have died in Tharparkar, Pakistan’s only Hindu majority district, in the last 11 months due to malnutrition and other complications.
The main causes behind the children’s death in Tharparkar district include birth asphyxia, pre-term, low birth weight, respiratory distress syndrome, pneumonia, delivery of babies through traditional birth attendants and diarrhoea, Dawn said today citing a government report.
Tharparkar, a desert district of the country’s southern Sindh province along India’s Rajasthan state, has been in the grip of drought for a long while.
The report was submitted in the Sindh High Court by the chief secretary after the approval of Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah last week.
It classifies the casualties of the children according to their age, which shows 118 children who died were newborn babies (one day age), 82 were between two days to one month and 28 children of 1.5 months to three months and 29 were between eight months and one year of age.
The report said the Thar communities, particularly women, lack awareness of their health concerns and majority of the married couple has an average of eight children.
The report, however, is silent about the lack of proper food in the region, an apparent effort to gloss over the official negligence.
The private media has been highlighting the apathy of provincial authorities to deal with the emergency situation in the area for the last one year.
Instead of recognising its lapses, the government, through the report, blames the Hindu residents for their lack of good food choices.
It also said the vegetables have not requisite energy thus their intake of proteins, energy, fats and other requisite calorific values is relatively lesser to a major extent.
The report examines that the Thari people use chillies and dairy products as their intake for the reasons that they hold huge quantity of livestock and the use of chillies is their traditional pattern.
Thus, another factor for weaknesses in women revolves around the non-consumption of proteins-rich diet as well as following their cultural patterns which increase their weakness to a greater extent.

The protesters called for Pakistan courts to allow the release of Kajal Bheel from her forced abduction, and urged support for the legal efforts to defend Kajal Bheel by the Global Human Rights Defence organization (GHRD).
GHRD is planning for the next court case to defend her on December 19 in Pakistan, and they are calling for people to support her human rights by signing their petition at: http://ghrd.org/get-involved/petitions/save-kajal/savekajal/ and on Twitter at #savekajal

The oppression and attack on Pakistan Hindu religious minorities was also demonstrated by protesters who pointed out that Hindus went from a 24 percent minority in 1948 to about 1.6 percent of the Pakistan population in 1998.
Human rights campaigner Ahmer Mustikhan asked Pakistanis – “Are these not our children? Are our Hindu girls not children that deserve to be protected, live with their families, and have a right to their religion?” R.E.A.L.’s Jeffrey Imm also pointed out how such human rights abuse of Hindu girls was a violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including articles 3, 16, and 18. Jeffrey Imm also denounced a pattern of attacks in Pakistan against Hindu temples and their business.
The protesters also decried the abuse of Pakistan Christians and other minorities, noting the recent mob attack on a Pakistan Christian couple (burning them to death), and called for an end to oppressive Pakistan blasphemy law used to give a death sentence to Christian Asia Bibi, which was used in the arrest of Christian Zafar Bhatti (who was shot to death), and oppression of other religious minorities. Protesters held signs condemning the Pakistan blasphemy law and calling for its change. Protesters called for the release of such Pakistan political prisoners as Christian Asia Bibi, who have been imprisoned on spurious “blasphemy” charges.

Washington DC protest against Hindu girls rape, Christian killings in Pakistan
As many as 25 Hindu girls are abducted and forcibly converted in Pakistan each month. Pic. All Pakistan Hindu Panchayat.
The Examiner | Washington DC | December 7, 2014 (Late posting: December 10, 2014 in HE):: The wails of Anjali, a twelve year old Hindu girl abducted and raped in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and all other persecuted people will now be heard in Washington DC on World Human Rights Day on December 10, the organizers of a protest announced Saturday evening. Abduction, rape and forcible conversion of Hindu girls has come into limelight in recent days. In the last week of November, two Hindu girls Mavi and were abducted and “married off” within 24 hours. According to Ravi Dawani, general secretary of the All Pakistan Hindu Panchayat, 99 percent of the abducted Hindu girls are under 13 years of age. According to the organizers of the protest, from a 24 percent minority in 1948 to about 1.6 percent population in 1998, the story of Hindus in Pakistan is among the greatest untold tragedies of the 20th century. More than one-fifth of Pakistan’s population has simply disappeared without a voice. And the persecution continues to this date.Along with the Hindus, Christians, Ahamadiyas, Shias , ethnic Balochs, Sindhis and other minorities are increasingly being targeted for “Islamization.” in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Christians continue to be killed and targeted by the use of the infamous blasphemy law. Early last month, a Christian couple — Shama Bibi, 24, and Sajjad Maseeh, 27, –, was burned to death by a Muslim mob in Kasur in the Punjab province, while Aasia Bibi, a Christian mother from a peasant background, awaits the hangman’s noose in the same Punjab province. The state of Pakistan is also using Nazi-style brutalities against Baloch freedom activists, committing crimes against humanity in Balochistan, where the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons says as many as 18,000 people are still missing. At least 2,000 Baloch activists were killed and dumped or target killed in recent years. The state has also started what the Amnesty International called the kill and dump policy against political activists in Sindh province. The minuscule but highly educated Ahmadi Muslims, who are said to number nearly one million, also live in a state of fear after being declared none Muslim by slain Pakistan premier Z.A. Bhutto. Saudi money also plays a vital role in Pakistan and Shias are being massacred, even though at least one in five Pakistanis is a Shia, with support of the military-controlled infamous Inter Services Intelligence agency. In fact, the I.S.I. has long been accused not only by Pakistani political and civil society organizations, but also neighboring Afghanistan and India for instigating violence through its proxies.
This December 10 (Wednesday), on the occasion of World Human Rights Day four different human rights organizations, defending the rights of Hindus, Christians and Baloch are bringing together these diverse voices of struggle and despair in a unified expressions of protest at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington DC

Old Hanuman Temple torched and destroyed in Tando Muhammad Khan District.
Ash is scattered round a barely visible idol on the raised platform and the floor of the small temple which was torched in Tando Mohammad Khan in the early hours of Friday.—Dawn
M H Khan | Dawn News | Hyderabad | 22 Nov 2014:: A small Hindu temple of Hanuman in Tando Mohammad Khan town was torched in the early hours of Friday, sparking protests by the enraged Hindu community and nationalist parties.
Hindu Panchayat leaders Dr Girdarilal Mirchomal Gul, Babu Patel and Mohan Lal termed the arson attack a conspiracy to trigger riots in Tando Mohammad Khan district and vowed to foil such attempts by exercising restraint.
They, however, urged the federal and provincial governments to bring the instigators to justice.
They said that it was an old temple located near the bungalow of former district nazim Mir Inayat Talpur. Devotees worshipped there till midnight and when they returned at 5am on Friday they found the stone idol of Hanuman blackened with soot and some religious books burnt, they said.
SSP Naseem Aara Panwhar quoted a witness as telling police that four men, who were seen fleeing the area on two motorcycles immediately after the incident, were believed to be involved in the attack.
She argued that the place was not a temple in the exact sense of the word. “It was an elevated platform for keeping idols. In the wake of arson attacks on temples early this year, we had told the caretakers of this temple as well to raise the boundary wall around it and avoid keeping idols and holy books there, but they failed to heed the counsel,” she told Dawn over the phone.
Dr Gul said that the temple which was mostly frequented by members of the Kolhi community did not have a complete roof either. “The caretaker called Baola had taken away all idols of Krishan, Ram and Shiv but kept books and Hanuman there,” he said.
He said that police were cooperating with them and a case had been lodged at the Tando Mohammad Khan police station against unidentified arsonists.
Mohan Lal, who is a nephew of minority affairs minister Giyanchand, said that the minister had sent a team to inspect the temple the same day. “The boundary wall of the temple is hardly three to four feet high, with a small gate,” he said and confirmed that the police had advised local Hindu residents to erect a higher boundary wall around the temple but they failed to do so.
Meanwhile, activists of several nationalist parties and members of the Hindu community staged protests on Phulelli road, demanding protection for the Hindu community and arrest of culprits. They said that such incidents were aimed at harassing Hindus and scaring them into migrating from Sindh.
In a similar arson attack on March 28 this year, a small Hanuman temple was torched near Fateh Chowk in Hyderabad, triggering widespread protests by the Hindu community.
MPA Aijaz Shah Bukhari visited the Tando Mohammad Khan temple and assured Hindu community leaders of complete cooperation while a notable, Mir Sajjad Ali Talpur, announced reconstruction of the temple.

Hindu council urges PM to prevent atrocities against minorities.
Member National Assembly Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani addressing a press conference to condemn the increase in number of crimes against minorities. -Press release photo. Source: Dawn.
Mubashir Zaidi | Dawn News | Karachi | 9 Nov 2014:: Protesting over increasing attacks on minorities and forced conversions, the Pakistan Hindu Council on Sunday proposed the establishment of an active committee at the federal level under Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to prevent atrocities against minorities.
This was unanimously endorsed in an urgent meeting called by the executive body of the council, which also assigned Member National Assembly Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani the task of contacting other representative parties for their support.
The meeting was chaired by Chela Ram Kewlani to review mounting atrocities against minorities across the country.
Condemning the brutal killing of a Christian couple in Punjab, the council deplored the kidnapping of Hindu citizens, particularly of minor girl Anjali from Dherki, Kiran from Nawab Shah and Jeoti from Hyderabad.
The council demanded the prime minister and provincial chief ministers implement effective and practical legislation to protect minorities, adding that interfaith harmony and Hindu marriage laws were needed.
Read also: Religious scholars demand justice for murdered Christian couple
Chela Ram said that oppressed minorities saw a ray of hope with the Supreme Court order to protect minorities’ rights, but unfortunately state institutes due to a negligent approach have failed to implement the apex court’s order.
“Minorities are still as vulnerable as they were one-and-a half years ago and to add to their misery, the land mafia is actively engaged in illegally occupying religious places of minorities and the kidnapping of Hindu girls is still happening.
“The minorities are losing hope with the incumbent government,” Ram stated.
Dr Ramesh Kumar said the Constitution of Pakistan guaranteed minorities rights.
“Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah on 11 August 1947 clearly said in his speech that the first duty of the state is to provide welfare for its citizens… minorities’ rights should be protected without discrimination,” he added.
The Pakistan Hindu Council also proposed names for inclusion in the interfaith committee; including Pir Amin-ul-Hasnat Shah (State Minister for Religious Affairs), Maulana Shirani (JUI-F), Mir Hasil Bazanjo (BNP), Khawaja Sohail (MQM), Abdul-Qehar Khan Wadan (PMAP). Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani from Hindu Community and Kamran Michael from the Christian community.
They also suggested the inclusion of at least one member from each religious party, including the Jamaat-i-Islami.
“Kidnapping of innocent Hindu girls, forced conversions and marriages are issues regularly faced by Hindus, mainly due to the absence of a Hindu marriage registration act,” said Dr Ramesh.
He regretted that the Sindh Government has failed to address minorities’ issues, including the protection of places of worship and cemeteries
Dr Ramesh said that misuse of blasphemy laws on a larger scale has resulted in the harassment of minorities, further stating that the laws are manipulated to settle personal disputes.
Expressing grave concerns on the burning alive a Christian couple, Dr. Ramesh said the incident had created a sense of panic among minorities.
He said that it has increased insecurity among minorities, leaving them to question the performance of state institutions at the national and international level.
Dr Kumar also warned that the fire ignited today, which is affecting the lives of innocent minorities, would wrap all Pakistani citizens in the near future.

Construction of Mosques one after another in India and destruction of Hindu temples in Pakistan one by one! What a tolerance and greatness on Hindus!! Suicidal Hindu race!!!
Hindu community moves court for protection of temple in Pakistan.
*Say that if urgent repairs are not carried out, walls of the temple might collapse putting in peril the building, lives of worshipers who visit it as well as the religious idols and symbols*
150-year-old Shree Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple in Pakistan near Kothari Parade in Clifton in Bahria Township in Karachi.
Karachi | PPI & PT | Oct 14, 2014:: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday appointed a court official as commissioner to verify whether or not the work for preservation of 150-year-old Shree Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple in Clifton has commenced.
Headed by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar, a division bench was hearing a petition filed by member provincial assembly Mukesh Kumar Chawla and All Pakistan Hindu Panchayat secretary general seeking the court’s directives to provincial authorities for safeguarding the historic structures.
The petitioners submitted that Bahria Town had undertaken a project from Park Tower traffic intersection to AT Naqvi Roundabout, which included the construction of a flyover in front of Park Towers and underpasses near Kothari Parade in Clifton.
They said that the construction project had created unrest amongst the Hindu community as it posed a serious threat to the foundation of 150-year-old Shree Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple.
“With the commencement of the project, the historic temple –which is also a national heritage – is in danger,” the petitioners stated.
They said that if urgent repairs were not carried out, walls of the temple might collapse putting in peril the building, lives of worshipers who visit it as well as the religious idols and symbols.
Earlier, the court had directed authorities concerned to ensure full and effective safety and security of the subject building and carry out work for preservation of subject heritage site under the supervision of qualified and reputed civil engineers.
A man walks past the construction of an underpass and a flyover near the 150-year-old Shri Ratneshwar Mahadev temple
During the hearing on Tuesday, petitioners’ counsel Haider Waheed said that despite repeated and categorical orders of the court and undertakings by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC)’s counsel, work had not yet commenced. However, Bahria Town counsel Khalid Jawed Khan told the judges that KMC had engaged the civil structural engineer and after certain paper work the work for the structure’s preservation would commence.
In order to verify the claim, the court appointed a court official as commissioner to visit and inspect the subject site and report to the court as to whether the work as mandated by the court had commenced or not and the pace and progress of the work if it had commenced as claimed.

The area is infested with the gun-toting fundamentalists, including Taliban who roam around in the area freely. There are more than 25000 Sikhs living in the area, and recently had been facing violence, abduction and ransom from the terrorists groups.
Swaran Singh, a member of the provincial assembly and former President of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, informed that he himself went to the place and brought the body back at Peshawar.
He said North West Frontier Province chief Minister Parvez Khattak has taken a personal interest in the killing of the Sikh gentleman and has assured security to the minority community and safety of their properties.
According to eye witnesses the killers escaped on foot after committing the crime. No group claimed responsibility for the killing.

Pakistan Supreme Court to take up Hindu temple case on Monday.

Naeem Sahoutara | The Express Tribune | Karachi | February 23, 2014:: Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has taken suo motu notice of the alleged denial of access to members of the Hindu community to a century-old temple located in Tando Adam, The Express Tribune has learnt.
A three-member bench of the apex court is expected to take up the matter at its Karachi registry on February 25. Reports have been called from the provincial government’s culture and heritage department. Meanwhile, Jacobabad’s deputy commissioner has filed a report to the apex court ahead of the proceedings. According to the commissioner, the Amrapur Asthan has been declared a protected heritage and historical site by the Sindh Culture, Tourism and Antiquities department through an official notification issued on November 7, 2013. “There is no hindrance to the minority community with regard to their religious practice and they are free to worship in the temple,” the commissioner stated in the report. “In fact, a birthday/religious annual function was also held during June 2013 in the temple by the minority community.”
The report further states that people of the Hindu community have also requested for permission to construct a boundary wall around the temple with their own resources. The request has been forwarded to the culture, tourism and antiquities department.
A member of the Hindu community, Reejho Mal, had taken the provincial chief secretary, culture secretary and a government school’s administration to court last year for allegedly blocking the Hindu community’s access to the place of worship – Amrapur Asthan of Prem Prakash Panth.
This site, which is spread over seven acres, houses a historic temple and a samadhi – or final resting place- of Swami Teenu Ram Maharaj, who had laid down the foundation of ashrams or Hindu spiritual centres.
The petitioner had said that the samadhi and the temple are important religious places visited by devotees from across the country and abroad.
“Because of the law and order situation during the late 1950s, most Hindu families fled the area,” he recalled. “The provincial government allotted a portion of the temple’s land to the education department, which established Dr Ziauddin Primary School there.”
The petitioner had alleged in his plea that the school’s administration, particularly the headmaster, was hostile towards members of the Hindu community. He (headmaster) had not been allowing members of the minority group to enter the place of worship and perform rituals, according to Mal.
He had claimed that in October 2012, the school’s administration had manhandled visiting Hindu pilgrims and did not let them enter the holy place, adding that a hostile group was also desecrating the sacred structures.
Several applications were sent to the authorities, asking them to ensure that Hindu community members get access to the temple and declare it as a protected heritage building. “Article 36 of the Constitution ensures right of free access to one’s worship place without any hindrance from the other,” argued Mal. “Since this place bears historical and archaeological importance, it must be declared as protected heritage under Section 6 of the Sindh Cultural Heritage (Preservation) Act 1994.”
The high court judges were pleaded to declare that it was illegal for the school’s administration to prevent members of his community from practicing their religion by blocking access to the temple.
Later on, a social welfare organisation also joined the proceedings, claiming that a temple did not exist at the site. Muhammad Azam Qureshi, the organisation’s representative, had alleged that the school was built at a spot on which a guest house comprising between 40 and 50 rooms once stood. He had pleaded to the court to dismiss the petitioner’s claim.
After hearing the arguments, the SHC had ordered in March 2013 the government official and the school’s management should ensure that Hindu community members can enter the temple freely. The provincial law officer was ordered to submit comments of government officials by this date.

Pakistani Hindus angered by ‘forced conversions’
PTI | KARACHI | Feb 17, 2014:: Pakistan’s Hindu minority is angered by “forced conversions”, with leaders of the community saying girls as young as six years were being pressured to change their religion.
“Can you accept your daughters being forcibly married to Hindu men?” said Raj Kumar, whose niece Rinkle Kumari was allegedly forced to convert and marry a Muslim man in 2012. Rinkle’s case made headlines and was even taken up by the Supreme Court.
Speaking at a seminar at the Karachi Press Club on Sunday on the theme “Hindus in Pakistan – issues and solutions”, Kumar called six-year-old Jumna on to the stage and said she and her 10-year-old sister Pooja would have been forced to change their religion if the media had not raised their case.
“What do children as young as Jumna and Pooja know about Islam and their own religion, for that matter, that they’d want to convert? This is the height of injustice,” Kumar was quoted as saying by the influential Dawn daily.
Jumna’s mother Marju and father Soma, residents of Mirpurkhas city in Sindh province, were present at the event.
“We are poor people. My little girls helped supplement our income by selling clay toys and utensils door to door. On February 4, they left home as usual with their basket of toys but didn’t return. We raised an alarm,” Soma said.
“After several reports in the media about our missing girls, it was found that they had been staying with a man named Rajab Pathan. The police of our area later produced them in court as Muslim children. We were prevented by the police from seeing them too.”
Soma said the court sent the girls to a Darul Aman or womens’ home following suspicions they may have been subjected to child abuse at home.
“Little Jumna has been given back to us now but Pooja is still at the Darul Aman. She seems to have been brainwashed into saying strange things about us. Her mind seems affected by the trauma,” he said.
All Hindu Rights Organisation chairman Kishan Chand Parwani, one of the organisers of the seminar, said it was sad to see the problems of Pakistan’s minorities “multiplying instead of decreasing”.
Former lawmaker Safdar Abbasi said it was a sad reality that not just Hindu temples but mosques, imambargahs or Shia prayer halls and churches were no longer safe in Pakistan.

The shoes I walk in: Minorities blame growing discrimination for the loss of a feeling of fellowship
Tribune Correspondent | Karachi | January 26, 2014:: In 1947, there were a 100 Parsi families living in Quetta. Today, there are only two.
“This figure alone tells the deplorable state of minorities in the country,” aptly concluded Justice (retd) Mehta Kailash Nath Kohli, the keynote speaker on the first day of a two-day workshop, ‘Status of Religious Minorities in Pakistan: Challenges and Response’, organised by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) at the Avari Towers on Saturday.
The judge, who hails from Quetta, spoke how his community members — the Hindus — are being abducted and kidnapped. “Since Pakistan’s inception, not a single law has been legislated in favour of religious minorities,” he added.
Human rights defenders from Palestine, France, Indonesia and Philippines gravely listened to the woes of the minorities.
The issue of land grabbing of the houses of worships and properties by the Evacuee Trust Property Board also became a part of the discussion. Lawyer Rochi Ram claimed that one-million acre land in Badin, Umerkot and Tharparkar was left behind by the Hindus but the land was no longer under the community’s ownership. “The government takes over the land and gives it on lease. Many burial places belong to the non-Muslims but we are not allowed to bury the bodies over there.”
A speaker, M Prakash, said that there were 350 temples and gurdwaras in Sindh but only five to 10 were owned by them. Minority members pointed out how discussions over the misuse of the blasphemy law have disappeared from the forefront. “We have forwarded recommendations to the government on how can we stop the misuse of this law,” said father Emmanuel Yousaf.
Another participant, Jaipal Chhabria, lamented that there was not a single Christian parliamentarian in Sindh Assembly. “Bilawal Bhutto dreams of having a Christian prime minster but his government did not to make the required amendments to allow minorities to hold important positions.”
He frowned that the media showed Hindus as opportunists. HRCP’s vice-chairperson Amarnath Motumal discussed how personal laws and marriage rights of their community were being completely ignored. “The courts do not recognise our rights. Even seven-year-old girls are being converted.”
Pushpa Kumari broke down into tears as she narrated the incident when a body of a 17-year-old girl was taken out from a graveyard because she was buried in a Muslim graveyard.
Carrying a bunch of newspapers dated last week, she said, “There are five cases of sexual harassment of Hindu women in Sindh, including the gang rape of a teenager.”
Kumari said that recently the government released 39 bonded labourers of the Hindu community, but asked would it take their responsibility. She narrated how in 1996, she was told to quit her job at the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission because their policy did not allow Hindus to work there.
A Sikh community member, Sardar Kalyan Singh, said that when they go to Peshawar or FATA, they have to pay Jizyah, which is sometimes Rs25,000, per person per year.
“Two days ago, a member of the Sikh community was killed because he refused to pay Jizya. When we spoke to the minister, he said that he is being forced to pay the same, so we should abide.”
A member of the Ahmadi community, Amir Mahmood, called for elimination of the anti-Ahmadi Ordinance.
Barkat Ali from the Hazara community said that he had lost his cousin in the recent attack on Hazara pilgrims. “We are left with no hope and we think the government is not serious about solving anything.”
Bigger picture: Foreign activists paint dismal picture
Foreign human rights defenders also shared the situation in their countries. Ihsan Ali Fauzi, a researcher at the Center for the Study of Religion and Demonstration in Indonesia, said that since 2006, discrimination and violence against Ahmadis, Biharis, Christians and Shias had increased.
Through his presentation, he shared that attacks on minorities have risen from 216 in 2010 to 244 in 2011. Fauzi said that the blasphemy law which came into existence in Indonesia in 2008, and the laws pertaining to seeking permission before building a house of worship led towards religious intolerance.
Present at the HRCP workshop, Palestinian Al-Haq’s general-director Shawan Jabarin, said that Pakistan’s government was not doing enough to tackle the human rights violations in the country.
“I feel that the government is not playing its part. The people here should be free from fear and enjoy freedom,” said Jabarin, who since 1987 has been fighting for the rights of his people back at home.
Jabarin, who also holds a Masters degree in International Human Rights Law, said that Al-Haq was founded in 1979 and is the first human rights organisation in the Middle East region. His organisation dealt with policies instead of isolated cases.
Jabarin is a firm believer of self-determination, and feels that people all over the world should be entitled to their right. “Back home, our people are not enjoying self-determination. They face property destruction and killings. We are struggling but one day we will get there. This is what we learn from history.”

Forced conversion of Hindu girls on the rise: Pak Hindu Council
MEENA MENON | THE HINDU | ISLAMABAD | JANUARY 7, 2014:: The head of the Pakistan Hindu Council Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, Member National Assembly has condemned the rise in kidnapping of Hindu girls, forced conversion and marriage.
Talking to the media outside Parliament House on Tuesday he referred to the recent kidnapping of a Hindu woman, Lucky Bhel from Sindh who was reportedly forced to marry a follower of a local religious leader.
“Another Hindu teacher, Sapna Rani, from Peshawar was recovered after 15 days with the active support of media and civil society,” he said.
Dr. Ramesh Kumar said that the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had promised minorities their rights and the Constitution of Pakistan also guaranteed their protection. He pledged support for the victims’ families and said he would raise the issue on every available forum including Parliament and take up the grievances of the Hindu community.
Earlier this year, the Sindh Government had set up a three member committee to examine a law to stop forced marriages of Hindu girls.
Activists in Karachi have said there are 20 such cases every month and last year the case of Rinkle Kumari went right upto the Supreme Court which allowed her and two other girls to decide their future. [Courtesy: The Hindu]
Recovered Hindu teacher complains of pressure for conversion
WASEEM AHMAD SHAH | PESHAWAR | JANUARY 7, 2014:: A missing Hindu female schoolteacher told a local judicial magistrate on Monday after recovery from Bahawalpur that her kidnapper had forced her to marry him after changing her faith and kept her unconscious for most of the time during captivity on refusal.
Magistrate Mohammad Fayyaz Khan ordered the local police to conduct medical examination of teacher Sapna Rani and produce its report.
The teacher, who is around 25, was recovered from Khairpur tehsil of Bahawalpur late on Saturday after investigation officer of the case Shaheenullah Khan traced her location with the help of her cellphone and that of her alleged captor, Zahid Nawaz, a resident of Bahawalpur.
The accused managed to flee.
Investigation Officer Shaheenullah Khan produced the girl before the judicial magistrate to record statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Ms Sapna had gone missing on Dec 21 while returning home from school in the jurisdiction of Paharipura police station. Police had registered a complaint lodged by Suresh Kumar, stated to be the teacher’s cousin.
Ms Sapna is a teacher at a private school, Peshawar Science Academy, situated on the GT Road near Ayub Flour Mills.
The kidnapping had created unrest among the local Hindu community and its leaders had appealed to the government to take notice of the incident and recover the teacher.
The investigation officer said the teacher had recorded almost similar statements with him and the magistrate.
Ms Sapna told the court that when she was returning home on the day of kidnapping, a car stopped near her and the accused person put a cloth dosed with intoxicant on her face causing her to fall unconscious.
She said she gained consciousness after a day and saw a man later identified as Zahid Nawaz present in the room.
The teacher said whenever she gained consciousness, the kidnapper used to put forward the same demand of marrying him after conversion to Islam.
She said on her refusal, the man often put intoxicant-dosed cloth to her nose.
The woman said as she remained unconscious most of the time, she was not sure whether she was sexually assaulted by the suspect or not.
The court ordered to conduct her medical examination. [Read full report here. Courtesy: The Dawn]

Pakistani Hindu Refugees Stage Demonstration outside UN Office on Rights Day.
Express News Service | New Delhi | 11 December 2013:: Over a hundred Hindu refugees from Pakistan held a protest outside the office of United Nations (UN) here on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.
They submitted a memorandum addressed to UN Secretary General Ban-ki-Moon at the United Nations information centre demanding Indian citizenship to refugees. Protestors said that para-military religious terrorist outfits in Sindh have been harassing and terrorising Hindus.
The trail of harassment, murder, abduction, kidnapping of girls and their forced conversion as well as un-consensual marriages with the Muslims backed by the security establishment.
Such a situation is resulting in a gradual exodus of Sindhi Hindus from their historical and indigenous land – Sindh, and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, said Khemu Kalani (name changed), one of the protestors who along with 114 other Hindus came from Sindh province of Pakistan on a tourist visa to India via Rajasthan.
“These crimes committed against Hindus fall in the category of crimes against humanity and violation of various United Nations covenants, conventions, treaties, resolutions and instruments, particularly of the Article II, III, and IV of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide,” said Swami Om of the Hindu Veer Sena, who was accompanying the protestors.
Gomti, 39, could not hold back her tears as she recalled tales of horror of young Hindu women being abducted, raped and converted in Sindh province of Pakistan. She is among the 750 Pakistani Hindu people who have fled Pakistan and come to Delhi. Ganga, a 42 year old woman (name changed) said that she left Sindh province of Pakistan and has come to Delhi with her husband and their six children.
“We are called as kafir (or the non believer) in Pakistan; our children are not allowed to study in schools unless they convert to Islam and read the kalma. Wives of Hindu men are picked up and raped.
“When we go to police station to register complaints, the police drive us away saying rape is no big deal, has he taken anything from you?,” said Gomti, tears rolling down her cheeks.
Nahar Singh, a Delhiite who has given shelter to over 750 Pakistani Hindu refugees who came to Delhi over the past 18 months said, “ All they want is to live with respect and be allowed to stay as Hindus; the Government of India should grant them citizenship.”
Nahar Singh said that the refugee have already appealed to the President of India and all major constitutional authorities in the country including the Prime Minister, but in vain.
Nahar Singh added that thousands of these victimised Hindus, as well as their human rights defenders have sought refuge in India, where they no doubt face various legal, economic, and social issues.
The Centre, which has to either accept these refugees on the humanitarian grounds by recognising their refugee status or confer them the citizenship of India, has not come forth with any concrete decision.

Pakistani Hindu migrants are even denied from long term visa, Muslim Pak nationals using Indian voter ID, ration cards etc.
Upananda Brahmachari | New Delhi | 5th August 2013:: While more than 10,000 Pakistani nationals living in India in various refugee camps and benevolent habitations even after expired their visas and seeking long term visa or permanent residency, intruders from Pakistan are getting ration cards, voter cards and other documents from some rackets (consisting of secular maroons, callous admins, irresponsible police and subversive Pak agents) to make their Indian citizenship without any hindrance.
Twenty years after the Babri Masjid demolition at Ayodhya triggered migration of Pakistan-based Hindus to India then, over 1000 families of Hindus settled in Punjab continue to live illegally, banking on Indian benevolence for guests. They do not want to go back and are now demanding either citizenship or visa extension. Settled in various parts of Punjab, including Amritsar, Jalandhar and Rajpura, their stay in India is illegal since 2004 when the government stopped granting visa extension to these migrant families.
Under the running wheel of Pak persecution upon microscopic minorities there, Hindus have been trying to enter into India in various urgency like pilgrimage, finding old ancestors if any or to offer crematorium ash of the departed relatives to the Ganges at Haridwar. But, only urgency matters for these seekers of asylum in India from Pakistan relate to save their life in India anyway from the brutal torture of Islam, limitless in Pakistan.
Pakistani Hindus have often complained of destruction of their religious places, ransom, murder, forced conversions and abduction of girls for forced betrothal to Muslim men. Nobody heard. There were an estimated 25 lakh Hindus living in Pakistan according to the 1998 census which is less than 2.0 per cent of that country’s total population. These numbers obviously went down with the current trend of persecutions on Hindus in Pakistan. And life is not easy now for these migrants in India in the face of fathomless ignorance of the lawmakers in India. These families face difficulties in procuring driving licence or opening bank accounts for lack of any identity.
Such Hindu migrants from Pakistan are mainly sheltered in Punjab, Haryana, Rajansthan and Delhi without any right or getting any help from the Indian Govt. Rather, Govt is very much concerned about 5000 Rohingya Muslims from Mynamar, who have started to claim their asylum in Delhi and Hyderabad in India.
Once, the government of India had identified 7,635 such Hindu Pakistani nationals in the country in 2011 who have been living here before December 2004. As per a report surfaced earlier, the Govt of India was contemplating these cases for a settlement on individual basis. The numbers of such Hindu migrants have been crossed 10,000 mark now, but Govt has no other planning to care for these Hindu refugees from Pakistan who are living here on the benevolence of some Hindu NGOs, rights groups and some individuals.
Now, citizenship cases would be processed on a case-to-case basis considering an affidavit filed before the authority prescribed under rule 38 of the Citizenship Rule, 2009, as renunciation certificate.
While the Hindu migrants from Pakistan are living without voter ID cards, ration cards, many Pakistani nationals have been successful to manage the voter ID cards, ration cards and other documents to claim Indian citizenship at ease.
Reports came in that some Pakistanis are availing facilities at par with Indian nationals in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh and getting voter I-cards made in their names. The district administration has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
“There is report of eight Pakistani nationals who are living in Ballia on long-term visa and their visas have to be renewed every year. The district administration has got a complaint that these Pakistanis have got ration cards made and voter I-cards in their names and are availing facilities at par with Indian national”, District Magistrate (DM) Sunil Kumar Srivastava said.
Thanks to Srivastava as he has instructed the SDMs concerned to conduct an inquiry and submit a detailed report. It is said that if the allegations are found true their ration cards and I-cards would be cancelled.
According to local intelligence unit, two Pakistani sisters are living since the past four decades in Bihra Harpur village. There are also reports of some Pakistanis residing in Sikandarpur and Rasra areas, sources said.
As, the pro Muslim Samajvadi Party Govt of Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh has taken a vow to gift Uttar Pradesh as a pure Islamic settlement to the fundamental Muslims of Uttar Pradesh, Jihadi terrorists and their link persons from Pakistan are gradually allowed to settle in Uttar Pradesh in various techniques.
The DM concerned must complete the probe on Pakistani settlement in Ballia and to punish the perpetrators behind the racket.
